Kered he/him Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 One of the most emotionally impactful WoBs I’ve ever read was the one where we found out Taln never actually broke. Coupled with his lucid moment in OB, it just hit different. So, in todays chapter Ishar says that through his control of what’s left of the oathpact, he’s taken on the burden and sorrow of the the other heralds, sharing the madness. Do we think this is true and this is why Ishar seems to be more batsh** crazy than the others? And why the others don’t seem as crazy as Ishar? Or is this just more insanity babble? If it’s true, it kind of adds fresh nuance and light to Ishar and another glimpse of what his character was like. Him taking on the a majority of the burden from the other is pretty selfless. It could be his way of pursuing penance for what they did to Taln. Idk, there’s a lot of implications if he’s beig truthful. what do yall think?

In RoW ch 111 Ishar said that he alone bears the Oathpact, which is a untrue because Ishar abandoned the Oathpact, Taln was the only one who remain faithful and we saw this when Dalinar saw the Oathpact when fighting against Nale - there was only one strong Connection remaining, that one had to be Taln's. This doesn't have to mean that Ishar lied, Ishar can truly believe in what he's saying because of his insanity. Either way, this statement seems a little bit off and I don't trust Ishar's words. He either talks about things that are totally insane or delusional. And while he seems a little bit better now, I still wouldn't be surprised if there is much more to this.
+Child of Hodor Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 I think it is more interesting if he's telling the truth about siphoning the pain. It's very interesting to me because it is basically what Odium does for people like Moash although Ishar does not take it all. I also think he is telling the truth about ascending to Honor, but just a piece of it and a smaller piece than what Dalinar is connected to. I do think he is delusional in his own way but is being truthful in what he said to Kaladin. Like he did ascend to a piece of Honor, but that doesn't make him the equal of the vessel of a full shard which is how he is acting. He's not as powerful as he thinks he is. Him not being able to see Kaladin as important to events despite Kaladin saving the day in 3 out of 4 books is proof of that. 1
lightoaken Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 If he's telling the truth, that means Ishar carries the madness of Heralds through the bond, right? However, Taln and Jezrien are pretty much insane. So, I thought maybe Taln is out of this sharing-madness bond as he was in Braize but why was Jezrien mad then?

I can’t decide if Jezrien was more insane than the others or just more drunk. 1

Yeah, they are all still mad just not as out of it as Taln. Jezrien was a responsible leader once and now he’s inverted to being an irresponsible drunk. Which makes him about as functional as Taln but it’s a bit different.
