Rust comes back, but they are not good at holding things and drop the rock. Regardless, the curved shadow-food looks much sharper than the rock. Ensuring that only a few nodes touch it, the pick up the blade half of the scythe, brandishing it in a tendril. 

The woman tilted her head. She could not sense Rust. For that matter, she could not sense any of them but Adtae. She heard them, though. She held out a fist, and Adtae was launched backwards.

Adtae growled. This was not not good. He held out his hand, and her shadow was stripped from her, appearing as a long sharp spear. He threw it at the woman, who wouldn’t be able to sense it. The woman took it through the heart, but otherwise ignored it. Nevertheless, a dark, weightless mist started to leak from the wound. It ran to Adtae, and it seeped under and into his mask, entering his body through his eyes.

As the mist seeps away, Rust tries to hit the woman with the flat side of the scythe, not really knowing how it works. Cutting a Ferrian does not work nearly as well as crushing one, after all.

The Andharik energy, much more potent than the woman’s (though formidable), launches away the terrifying sight. She takes a wound, and she seems to be significantly slower. She still does not acknowledge the wounds.

Huh, I thought death’s scythe would suck out Rust’s soul or something. Do they even have a soul? I think the easiest thing to do is to give each node a tiny soul that adds up when they interact as a swarm.

It is not really Death’s scythe. Adtae usually doesn’t use one, but a scythe is the only weapon he knows how to use, because he kinda invented the concept of violence.

He rarely actually uses one, because his eyes are often enough, as spirits can’t be blind.

The woman launched herself into the air, but tripped, falling. Adtae stepped up to the woman, and drove a scythe, in his hand again, through her neck.

Her souls immediately separated, and Adtae covered everyone else’s eyes. He lifted his mask again, and slipped it back on. He uncovered their eyes, then signed. It is done.

“That is good. We have defeated another copper human. This new way to communicate is better, if shapes are hard. If shapes are easy, I can know things faster with words than gestures.” They contract, thinking. “We should try to have one node look at you.”

That makes sense; was Adtae a farmer before he died? Rust’s node has understand sign language because they think it can; it also sees through things sometimes.

Adtae nodded. He enclosed himself in darkness, leaving a small hole for a node to come through. Perhaps I will use shapes with you and gestures with the others.

“Yes. In emergencies, you can make words faster than gestures. But you could become tired, so you should do this usually.” Rust extends a tendril, and drops a node through the hole in the shadows. Said node, untethered from Rust’s consciousness, simply attempts to stick to anything metal and to slingshot around any actual magnets. It does contain few memories for reference, which would sit dormant unless the node moved several dozen feet and overwrote them with a map of the area.

Alright, I’m going to sleep. Good comparisons would be of a single neuron hooked up to an eyeball. And with MRI-like vision, it’s not even certain that Rust can perceive the eyes.

When the eyeball approached, Adtae removed his mask. It had no effect.

So like, the way it kills is by draining the Andharik energy. But none of y’all actually have Andharik energy to drain… cuz y’all aren’t from this universe.

So I could technically just leave the mask off and hall would be ok.

But I don’t know that.

It’s not an actual eyeball, but it acts kinda like one. Apparently normal dodecahedrons can’t fill space, but rhombic dodecahedrons can, so I have to change what kind of dodecahedron the nodes are.

Adtae replaces the mask, then dissolves the barrier. Your node did not die.

It… it is wierd. Like emotions… but smaller. Especially pain. But my eyes… they don’t feel. They are seeing, but not feeling.
