scientificmotif Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 (edited) As we've seen, Duralumin can store not only Connection to people, but connection to places. This may suggest that you can store Connections to anything. Can this work for anything? Could you store a Spren bond in an unkeyed metalmind and give it to another Duralumin ferring? How would a Spren react to being temporarily Connected to two people at once? Obviously, some power systems are also keyed to Identity, but storing Identity opens a whole 'nother bag of worms, like storing Mistborn status or something. Could you store your Spiritual, Physical and Cognitive Connections to each other? Could someone tap an unkeyed metalmind of someone else's Connection and possess them, or steal their relationships? How would your Spiritual aspect react to being Connected to two different bodies at once? Are there different types of Duraluminminds, like tinminds? For example, social Connections and Connections to places? This would be helpful to nerf Connection storage, so that you could not, say, be a famous Youtuber, periodically store your *millions* of parasocial relationships, and use that to forcibly bond spren? According to Brandon Sanderson in https://wob.coppermind.net/events/188-general-reddit-2015/#e3923, your age is also a Connection between your three aspects, which made TLR's immortality difficult because his Spiritual aspect was pushing back. Can Duraluminminds store specific parts of your Connection, or only a equal portion of all the "parts" of a Connection. For example. could you store only the age portion of your Physical-Spiritual aspects connection to fix TLR's problem? All kinds of shenanigans might be able to be played with disconnecting certain parts of your Connections! Could you make yourself forget something by storing your Connection to a memory in the Cognitive Realm? How does being *partially* connected to some things work? If you are storing 50% of a spren bond, would breaking the oaths give the spren 50% of the pain? Would your surgebinding and healing only be 50% as powerful, and your spren able to detect you half as well? Unfortunately, I don't have enough time to put all my questions into words, so that'll be all for now. Duraluminminds just might have just as much potential as Nicrosilminds, as absurd as that sounds. It just seems like a very interesting topic to talk about. Note that much of this could also apply to Bondsmiths... Edited October 16, 2024 by scientificmotif

Most aspects of F-Duralumin are RAFO, because he intends to include this in Mistborn Era 3. However, there have been WoBs about Sprend Bonds and Connection (not necessarily F-Duralumin based - but similar mechanics) that indicate that the Spren, being Sapiant, has Volition and you could not take (or keep) that kind of Connection unless they agreed (The Spren could just break the Connection from their end). WoBs: Spoiler Quote Calderis Feruchemical aluminum stores and taps a marker that seems to suffuse all Investiture within a person, removing or strengthening Identity. Does Feruchemical duralumin work similarly? Does tapping connection while storing in a metalmind increase the connection of the Investiture stored? Brandon Sanderson RAFO. Mostly because I've got a main character who's going to be doing this, I'm not going to spoil the fun or lock myself down yet. Skype Q&A (Oct. 8, 2018) Quote Questioner Could a Radiant ever belong to multiple Orders? Brandon Sanderson This is theoretically possible, but it was not done in the past. It’s just not a thing that you did. It was not kosher. But it is theoretically possible. You’d have to find spren that had volition, and you would have to convince multiple demigods to be okay with this. The fact that you can be a Knight Radiant and you could pick up one of the Honorblades and have access to those Surges… I mean, there’s an easier way to do it, in that case. (If you consider getting a hold of one of the Honorblades to be easy.) But it is theoretically possible to have something like that happen. Waterstones RoW Release Event (Nov. 18, 2020) Quote Questioner So, the fan page wanted to know. Would it be possible for Hemalurgy to steal a living Shardblade? That was the top voted question. Brandon Sanderson Ok, so you're bonded to a Shardblade. You get spiked, then they spike off the bond so that the Shardblade is bonded to someone else. Questioner I assume so... Brandon Sanderson But can they do it with a living Shardblade? You can definitely do it with a dead Shardblade because its just stealing the Connection. With a living Shardblade, yes you could do that 'though the spren could break the bond at will. <edited for length and relevance> White Sand vol.1 Orem signing (June 29, 2016) Hope that helps 2
scientificmotif Posted October 16, 2024 Author Posted October 16, 2024 Thanks, hope this gets moved soon then Thanks, that answers my questions about Spren bonds. I suspected that F Duralumin would be RAFO'd, so I was thinking about theorizing about what it is and what it does.

This may suggest that you can store Connections to anything. Can this work for anything? We don't know a whole lot yet, but from what I can tell, most types of Connection can be stored via duralumin Feruchemy and some of those Connections can have an effect on Invested Arts. Spoiler https://wob.coppermind.net/events/50-calamity-denver-signing/#e645 Dirigible Can you store any sort of Temporal Connection? Brandon Sanderson Um, most. Spoiler https://wob.coppermind.net/events/331-orem-signing/#e9407 Questioner If a Knight Radiant were to store Connection and Identity into the appropriate metalminds on a heavy basis, would it affect their spren bond, and how? Brandon Sanderson Oh, right. Yes, but I won't answer the how, but it definitely has an effect. Spoiler https://wob.coppermind.net/events/394-dragoncon-2019/#e12895 DoritoJH So, AonDor is super versatile and powerful. Brandon Sanderson Yes, but region-locked! DoritoJH Yes, it is region locked, exactly. If a full Feruchemist using nicrosil were to create an unlocked medallion that allowed an Elantrian to store Connection to Elantris' location, would it let them use AonDor at full power as long as they were tapping that Connection? Brandon Sanderson Yes. That should work just fine. ... Just understand that the medallion's going to have to be usable by everyone in order to work. You're going to have to jump through some hoops, but I think what you want there would work. And for those of you listening, that would be the harder way to unlock AonDor. There are easier methods. Spoiler https://wob.coppermind.net/events/394-dragoncon-2019/#e12917 Questioner I know Hemalurgy [has to go to mix and match powers], would it be possible to use Feruchemy for Connection to hack into multiple Knights Radiant, kind of act as a Squire to more than one at the same time. Brandon Sanderson Great question! I think you could make this work. I think it would take a little bit of legwork, but I think what you're wanting to do could indeed work. More likely in that case though, you could probably be a Squire to multiple Orders. *Hesitantly* Yeah...I think that would work, but I don't think it's the easiest way to do what you want to do. I think there are easier ways. Spoiler https://wob.coppermind.net/events/56-calamity-houston-signing/#e753 Cadmium (paraphrased) Would a Connection medallion accurately interpret a listener's Rhythms? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) Yes, it would, but not all of it, some would be lost in translation. You'd probably lose some of the nuance. It would probably be better to give the medallion to someone who couldn't understand it than someone who spoke it. And as for different Duraluminminds being required for different Connections, possibly. It's debatable whether Bendalloyminds require a separation for liquids and nutrients, but we know for a fact that Copperminds do not have this limitation despite having many discrete pieces of Investiture. So it could go either way, but I'd probably err on the side of needing separate Duraluminminds for different Connections as being optional. Edited October 16, 2024 by Trusk'our 1
scientificmotif Posted October 21, 2024 Author Posted October 21, 2024 Aight, that answers most of my questions and probably is about the most i'll get till new books come out. Thanks.
