The sun rose slowly above the horizon. As it did, you could hear hooves storm the ground from far away. Getting louder.

 

She felt them before she heard them, but only by half a second. The thunder of hooves woke her quickly, and she tried to hide herself in a small cavity under her rock pillow. She would be visible if they looked hard enough, but this would have to do.

Why would someone be climbing on horse?

She hid as deep into the small hollow as she could, then froze, hoping she was hidden enough that they wouldn’t see her.
