The Greenspine narrowed its eyes at the tributes, then spotted a hint of something in the bushes on the other side of the clearing from it. Oh, there's that pesky tribute in hiding, it thought. Its kind had excellent vision, of course. Why is he hiding anyways? There's nothing more for him to do but fight. I'll just make that known for him. It picked up a rock from off the ground, swung it around with a vine, and flung it into the bush, right in front of where Murr was hiding.

"Come out and fight them, and don't think you can get out of this because I'll eat you if you don't!"

Evan glanced at where the rock had been thrown and narrowed his eyes. Now that he was looking extra carefully, he could make out the faint shape of what seemed to be a shield. 

Gotta make sure, he thought as he flung one of his tomahawks at the shield. Now that they were this close, if that really was a tribute, he would only need one for the close-quarter fighting.

The moment he glanced away, Murr lunged. The shield covered his small frame comfortably, the tomahawk still sticking out of it as he barreled forward with abandon to crash into Evan.

Aerol cried Evan's name and ran to attack Murr from behind, taking one of the Shardharpoons in her hand instead of loading it into her weapon.

Evan hadn't expected the Murr to rush him as he had. As the shield crashed into him, he felt a spike of pain, but had just enough time to drop his remaining tomahawk and grab the top two corners of the shield. He landed with a thud and held on for dear life, hoping the shield would protect him from any other weapons Murr had and also that it would leave Murr's back defenseless for Aerol to attack.
