Maj leapt from the tree, landing heavily on his feet and rolling to the side to deflect some of the fall, though his knees burned from the impact.

Maj spins and throws his empty backpack at the Greenspine, hoping it might slow or distract the beast.

The Greenspine catches the backpack in its maw and tosses it to the side, hopefully hitting Berin, wherever he was.

"YOU... WILL... DIE!"

It rushes forwards with a roar.

It hits Berin and he holds it up ruefully. The real backpack lies behind him, but Berin is holding a fake one, from which he extracts a snack, a bench, and opera glasses, which he uses to view the fight.

”DO IT! KI** HIM!”

I have a personal quirk where I say kick instead of that word, but Berin would have said that word, so I blurted it for no particular reason other than stubbornness.

It’s not like I’m *scoff* squeamish, I just think it’s funnier to say kick.

"HOPEFULLY NOT!"

Arc would... Try to scheme the hell out of this.

"Hey, I know where a group of three tributes is! I'll tell you where they are if you let me live!" As he says this, Maj darts backwards, lifting his machete in tired hands.

Winter pulls on the rope experimentally to check the knot, and then starts scaling the tree quickly.

"OF COURSE NOT!" the Greenspine roared. "I will NOT let you leave alive, young one," it said to Maj.

@The Stormfather

One more push. One chance. One shot.

Maj raised his machete towards the Greenspine, other hand out in a fist above the blade.

A fight to end it all.

Maj looks at the Greenspine, trying to assess how much Berin did when he fought the beast, and trying to look for a potential vulnerability in it's defences.

The Greenspine began walking towards him menacingly, grinning---if it could be described as a grin.

If Maj had been paying attention to the Greenspine-Berin fight some time back, he would know that the Greenspine could drain Investiture (including from Aviar), and use Verdant spores to defend itself, although it could only use those above water. It was injured in one eye from where Berin had stabbed it, and a few scales on its back were missing, although there was a slim chance of reaching that weakpoint unless he was as deranged as Berin had been.

And Berin had been pretty deranged.

Berin Phantom would like to note that he had wounded both eyes, but only punctured one.
