therunner he/him Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 I am currently in the middle of my re-read prior to WaT, and one thing strikes me as quite odd, in light of Odium's plans. From Rayse we know he intended Roshar to serve as 'training grounds' for his armies to conquer Cosmere, and Taravangian seems quite likely to want to follow at least broadly similar goal. In light of that, Vorinist conception of afterlife as 'fighting to conquer Tranquiline Halls/Heavens' seems oddly similar to those stated plans. Sure, it is supposed to by alongside Heralds, but that could be taken as cover for Fused (both are Cognitive Shadows, so similar in nature). Is it possible that Vorinism was partially corrupted by Odium/influenced by futuresight, and 'fight in afterlife to conquer Tranquilline Halls/Heaven' is just a cover/interpretation of fighting to conquer Cosmere?

I think that after millenia Vorinism developed a focus on warfare, to prevent human extinction. He influenced it, but more by being there than actively changing doctrine.

But beyond that I agree that he's "preparing" them by forcing them through generational warfare (and the Thrill), while Vorinism grew from the Heralds who are themselves a Direct Reaction/Response to Odium. 1
