Ashbringer he/him Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 So I'm not entirely sure where to put this, or if it even belongs in the Spoiler section, but it's something I thought was interesting. We seem like we're getting some new lore and art with the Cosmere RPG, in due time, but I wanted to point out something I don't think I've ever seen before. Quote As Andrew explained in the video above, Radiant paths give characters access to Surgebinding skills and techniques. Each Surgebinding skill lists specific baseline effects, and talents can unlock advanced capabilities like Soulcasting living flesh or creating Elsegates. I feel like "Elsegate" is... fairly self-explanatory in to what it is and what it relates to, but I feel like it could refer to a few things. Is it just the mini-perpendicularity that an Elsecall creates to enter the Cognitive Realm? Is it a fuller perpendicularity that would allow an Elsecaller to transport multiple people there? Or does it act fully as a mini-Oathgate that can transport people across distances, as maybe an intro to Stormlight FTL? Probably not that last one. But it'll be interesting if it comes up in Wind and Truth 1

But it'll be interesting if it comes up in Wind and Truth Well whatever it is, it's called an advanced skill so it's probably not just the basic 'Send self through Mini-Perpendicularity' part of the Transportation Surge. Chances are it's the second one, using Transportation to send multiple people instead of just yourself. I do wonder just how game-breaking it would be to just shove someone through an 'Elsegate' into Shadesmar without going in yourself? Since unless they can fly or you make the gate above water they're probably going to drown in the sea of beads. 3

A lot of the surges ARE broken in combat against a non-radiant (without counting blade and plate). You can lash someone up, and they’ll die when they fall. You can soulcast someone into rock. You can stick them to the ground and kill then from a distance. You can blind them with an illusion. You could create a pit under them. 1

But it'll be interesting if it comes up in Wind and Truth I’m surprised no one is jumping to the Willshaper resonance. Would make sense that combining Stoneshaping and Transportation you’d be able to create a self-sustaining structure that would facilitate elsecalling. This would be an “advanced” skill in the sense that it requires access to both surges and their resonance, and it would be something that Elsecallers can’t do already themselves. Which is important, because so far there’s no reason to think of Willshapers as anything but second-rate Elsecallers. 2
