Acolyte of Radiance Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 In rythem of war, venli gets all uppity about a voidspren hiding in a cremling following her. This is a red herring, but it made me think.Could a voidspren give a cremling a form? Correct me if I’m wrong, but the void Spren inhabits the cremlings gem heart to do so,and isn’t that how forms like storm form are granted?by letting Spren in your gemheart? Could we get a war form or a nimble form Cremling?

Larkins, Chamsfiends or even Skyeels bond Mandras to decrease their weight, Ryshadium bond an unknown spren that increases their intelligence etc. But to use Surgebinding a full sentience is required, which those animals don't have, even if their bond increases it above normal animal levels. Unless that Cremling was a Hordeling of a Sleepless (which is very likely) and this Sleepless wants to be bonded with a lesser spren (which is possible), it's unlikely a Cremling would get Invested powers out of such bond, nor that it would cause them to drastically change forms like Parshendi do (note that Chiri-Chiri hasn't change in appearance after bonding a Mandra), but it might affect their physical or mental capabilities. But that "letting spren in your gemheart" is a problematic thing for an animal to do. For Singers it must be done willingly, with an intent - this probably still applies to animals, they must know what's going to happen and they must attract the correct type of spren in the fisrt place. It's unlikely to see animals switch forms like Singers because of this. Spoiler Questioner Would a macaw be able to become a Radiant? Or do you need sentience? Brandon Sanderson You need sapience. A macaw could not become a Knight Radiant. A macaw could, theoretically, enter a symbiotic spren bond, which would have different effects. Like, Ryshadium or even most of the larger greatshells don't have sapience. But a lot of creatures on Roshar do have what I would term an in-between step between human-level intelligence and animal-level intelligence on Earth. Ryshadium are in this; chasmfiends, as well, are smarter than an animal can get on Earth. Tor Instagram Livestream (Nov. 25, 2020) Spoiler Questioner Is a chull able to receive some form of Investiture? ...I'm thinking of Scadrial... Would it have the presence of mind to be able to use the abilities? Brandon Sanderson Not as it is right now. But you can see in the way that Ryshadium are working that we have animals that are reaching beyond-animal intelligence. Aviar are the same way. And it is possible to assume that you could get to the point where you could use such powers. But none of them are there yet. But the Aviar kind of use their powers, so I guess some of them are. So, yes, I will say that's possible. Skyward Seattle signing (Nov. 10, 2018) Spoiler Fantasy Faction Could any type of spren bond with a person (even if the results wouldn't be a Knight Radiant)? Or only the ones associated with a branch of the Knights? Brandon Sanderson Ooh, that's an excellent question. This is something theoretically possible for a lesser spren to achieve.
