How unfortunate for you

I'll have to try that on my sister.

I know, it was really embarrassing.

He completely randomly goes up to me after school one day with a straight face and asks me if I'm mature or not. I say yes. He says okay, don't laugh. Then out of nowhere he says butt.

Naturally I laughed, it was so random and unexpected.

I would laugh at that.

Is anyone else affected by Alpine splitting up, or is that just me?

In the wise words of a high school Junior, it will get better. Then it will get bad again. Progress isn't linear, but I promise it will get better, and the good makes whatever bad that comes worth it.

Well, I'm a Junior too, and the only happy time so far was the last half of Sophomore year. So

Hey, Senior year is a blast

Prolly won't be for me. I only go to the actual school for 1-2 classes a day now.

It's been better, but pretty much guarantees that I'll keep my 1 friend and 0 dates that I have now.

This actually meant "high school was the best time of my life and I kinda wish to go back there, so you kids should be happy to be in high school regardless of your actual experience"

In other words, I was certifying my oldness.

Everyone has highs and lows in life, which fall at different times in life, and blanket statements like "high school is the best time of life" actually mean "The best time of my own life was when I was in high school and I've been unsuccessfully chasing that high ever since" and dont reflect any underlying truth. For instance, high school was significantly better than middle school for me, but it probably wasn't such for you.

You are young, though. Enough to have a whole bunch of other highs ahead of you. Maybe in college, or in your 30s, or in your 50s, or in your 80s, I don't know, possibly all of those. But it will come.

Edit: Lol. About half of the Shard ninjaed me to say the same thing in much shorter. Old man gonna ramble, what do you want. And type slowly.

Exactly!

There will always be highs and lows throughout your life. It just happens, and you're never going to be perfectly happy in this life.

Helllooooooo

I'm a 9th grader, and I saw this existed, so I decided to join!

So, do any of you have any advice on how to make friends in high school? I was a really antisocial person for a while, and only now do I really care about making friends, but I have no idea how to do it.

I'm not sure cause I have a weird thing were I ease into friendships, just becoming friends with somebody without even introducing ourselves, so I'm not completely sure, but just generally be welcoming and kind!

For some reason I made all my friends in PE, so if that means anything you’re welcome. Just be a good person I guess, then go from there.

Talk to the people who sit next to you in class or join a club! Those are great ways to meet new people!

I’m homeschooled and introverted, so take this with a grain of salt, but find your niche, the kind of people you like or find fun. Extracurriculars or not-so-common classes are great for this. But then you have to talk to them, which is really the worst part, but just find something you can both nerd out over and it goes great.

My biggest advice would be to ease up on yourself. Every high schooler ever is too hard on themselves. Just remind yourself that y’all are doing your best with what you have, keep being friendly, and remember that it’s really not as awkward as it feels.
