I trust you though.”

“I just have this feeling. And I’m fine, I think.”

Contrary to her words, her body tensed up as if she were anxious. Her mind wasn’t anxious or calm, however. It was empty, barely a thought going through her head. She was acting on a combination of instinct and influence. Influence was outweighing the instinct. Jenny wasn’t entirely present at that moment. Most of the parts of her mind that made her Jenny had been knocked unconscious.

“Can I trust the feeling?”

He rested his head on hers again, holding her hand.

“You can-“

It almost sounded like her sentence had been cut off, like “can” was a part of an unfinished word. A little bit of Jenny remained. That was all she could do in that moment. She didn’t have much of an idea as to what was going on, but she knew that she hated lying. The feeling she had was a lie. It wasn’t her own.

He didn’t notice the strange cut off. “Ok, I trust you.”

Jenny nodded. Her thoughts returned to her. She didn’t remember their absence. Her headache had intensified quite suddenly, like she’d been struck on the head. She looked up to try and see if a branch had fallen on her head, but didn’t spot any broken limbs. The pain was making her vision start to swim a bit, so she leaned on Ed more heavily. It felt impressive that she was somehow becoming dizzy while sitting down.

”Did the lightning give you headaches?”

He leaned back against her, supporting her weight. “No, it didn’t. Do you have one?” He glared at Roy again. This was his fault.

“Yeah.”

Why was it so bright outside? Jenny squeezed her eyes closed.

”Light hurts.”

She patted her head to make sure it wasn’t on fire. It wasn’t on fire, which she was a bit disappointed about. It would’ve meant a bucket of water could’ve fixed her headache.

He moved so his shadow blocked the sun from her eyes. “Is that any better? Close your eyes too, that’ll help. Maybe you should try to go back to sleep? Sometimes that can help with headaches.”
He hated seeing her in pain. It was worse than any injury he’d suffered.

“That helps.”

Jenny somehow still felt dizzy. Sound also hurt, but she didn’t want Ed to quit talking to her. It was a good distraction.

”What’s your favorite color, food, and animal?”

She figured those were important things to know about a person. It was also just something to talk about.

He held her gently, close to him, and spoke softly, trying to help her headache, or at least not hurt it more.

”I like the color yellow, pasta, and dogs. What about you?”

Jenny smiled.

”I like black, pomegranates, and cats.”

Ed’s answers were pretty different from her own. She liked that for some reason. She realized that her hair was still down, but decided to leave it that way. Kasa had said that she should let her hair down sometimes.

“That makes sense.” He idly twisted a finger lightly through her hair, curling it around his pointer finger. “I like your hair,” he said, somewhat stupidly.

Jenny smiled wider. Ed was very good at being distracting.

“Thanks. I think I might start leaving it down more.”

Others thought it looked scary when she did that, but Jenny liked it. That was what really mattered.

“I think you should, it looks good. Though I can’t really imaging it not looking good, it’s you we’re talking about after all.”

Jenny blushed a bit. Ed thought she looked pretty. That was still hard to believe. He didn’t lie, though. She wasn’t entirely sure how to respond.

“Thank you. You’re really good-looking too.”

She wanted to tell him more about what she thought of him, beyond his looks, but she didn’t want to scare Ed away. Jenny didn’t want to seem like she was too obsessed with him too quickly.

He smiled at that. Usually he’d assume that someone complimenting him was just lying, but Jenny didn’t lie.

Jenny started to nod off. She felt safe and comfortable in Ed’s arms. Even though her head hurt tremendously, having him next to her helped counter the effects of that pain. She fell asleep, sagging a bit due to the somewhat awkward angle they were sitting at with Ed having shifted to block the sun.

Edgar glared at him. So it was really just an act for when she was awake.

He scoffed. “You won’t hurt me. You need Jenny’s trust.”

"Stop it Roy, If you want trust, be nice, and don't mention your secrets." Aaron says, as he lays around on a hammock he had made for himself. He winces, but sends some more of his power to create some for the others as well.

“Right because my secrets threaten yours don’t they?”
