Kasa raised an eyebrow. "Shoot."

“How do you look pretty?”

Jenny felt rather embarrassed asking this question, but seeing how terrible she looked in the photograph had made her a bit self conscious. She wanted to look nice.

Kasa looked her up and down. "Why would you ask me that? Aphrodite would be your best bet."

Was she making Kasa mad? Hopefully Jenny wasn’t being too much of an annoyance.

“Well, you look pretty, so I figured you’d know. You also gave me good advice about my hair.”

She looked at the ground, her expression downcast.

”I don’t think an Aphrodite kid would want to talk to me, anyways.”

Kasa shrugged, trying not to be flattered. "You don't look too bad. Good eyes. Nice hair. Just don't be so careful about it all, let your hair get loose sometimes, you know. Don't tuck in your shirt so neatly. You've got a good base."

Jenny nodded, carefully committing Kasa’s words to memory. She untucked her shirt slightly but refrained from letting her hair down. She didn’t want to deal with a panicked Roy.

”Thank you.”

She paused awkwardly for a moment. Jenny wanted to be friends with Kasa. As the only other girl and child of the Big Three on the quest, she figured that they could relate to each other.

”What’s it like being a Poseidon kid?”

Kasa probably got asked that question a lot, but Jenny couldn’t think of anything else to say.

Kasa kicked at the ground as she walked. "Oh, you know... it's ...great..." She squinted at Jenny. "Who's your godly parent?"

“Hades.”

Jenny was rather nervous telling Kasa that. Many people quit talking to her once they found out who her dad was. Maybe Kasa would be nice about it. She’d probably still judge her for it regardless, but Jenny wouldn’t blame her; everyone judged her.

Kasa nodded. That was cool. Big three kid. "Nice. You know how it is, then."

“Yeah. I think people are scared of me sometimes. Many are very uncomfortable with death. The sea seems pretty terrifying too.”

Kasa didn’t seem to be upset. Jenny couldn’t know for sure, however. She decided to assume the best.

“I like being able to do stuff like necromancy, though. It’s fun.”

It was unfortunate that she didn’t have any corpses to reanimate. There wouldn’t be much other than roadkill, and that tended to be too… squished for reanimation to be successful.

Is the garden gnome shop meant to be Medusa’s place?

I think so

Aaron

Aaron glanced at the scrawled sign, he knew it was written in cursive, but what it actually said, was beyond him. The letters seemed to swirl of the sign, and dance around his head.

"I wish it was written in Ancient Greek" he mutters.

He stares at the beautifully wrought statues, almost too perfect. "Hello?"

Jenny’s pocket began glowing. Taking out her ruby, she found that it was shining brightly. It almost hurt her eyes to look at it. She scanned over the other demigods who had decided to go on the excursion for food. No one seemed to be dead.

“There might be a graveyard here.”

She tapped her ruby, making sure that it wasn’t malfunctioning. Odd that a gnome emporium would be near a graveyard. Maybe the soil was extra fertile for gardens.

Jenny was impressed by the statues. Whoever had made them was talented. She poked one in the eye to check if it was simply someone pretending to be a statue. It was solid stone.

“It glows in the presence of death. My dad gave it to me.”

She held up the ruby so he could get a better look. The red light lit up her face and she squinted.

”Pretty neat, right?”

Aaron

Aaron looks at the ruby, glowing fiercely in Jenny's hand, "What causes it to glow" he says slowly. Looking once again at the statues. He notices there is a grimace, on every single statue. "This does not feel good"

“I think they look fine.”

Jenny poked the statue’s other eye. She was entirely oblivious to the expression on its face.

”Maybe they need some accessories. A sunhat could let them double as both a decoration and scarecrow. They could drive off rats trying to eat cabbages.”

She was reasonably certain people grew cabbages in gardens. Jenny had never been good with plants. She had whatever the opposite of a green thumb was.

Edgar started shaking again. It took him a minute to figure out why, be had been feeling strong before how now. Then he looked down at his legs. Gift had left them, leaving them weak. It flowed up to his hand, becoming a pair of sunglasses. He held them up, looking at them questioning, then put them on. He stumbled over to Jenny, leaning on the statue. He hadn’t realized how much Gift had been helping him.

“Nice glasses!”

Was her ruby’s light bright enough that Edgar needed sunglasses? She put it back in her pocket. The red glow was still annoyingly noticeable through the fabric, however, so she ended up stuffing it in her pack instead.

Hopefully Gift would go back to being a leg brace for Edgar. He looked pretty unstable. She had to admit that Gift was rather fashionable, however. Not many people got to wear sunglasses made of celestial bronze.

“Thanks! I’m not sure why Gift thinks I need them, but it’s probably best to wear them.” He reached out, grabbing her hand. He gave it a squeeze, stepping closer to her.

Edgar ignored that comment. Jenny had said she liked them, and he didn’t care what the rest of them thought. Or that’s what he tried to convince himself of.
