Argenti he/him Posted January 26, 2024 Posted January 26, 2024 As noticed by @alder24, the article on Nightblood claims "Upon being Awakened, the entire sword turned black, and began leaking black smoke." Now, the source for the bolded part is the Warbreaker annotations, which don't state that it started leaking black smoke upon creation. (The relevant part of the annotations) Spoiler Anyway, Nightblood is named for the smoke he leaks, and he originally had a different name when he was created. Vasher himself dubbed the sword Nightblood after he had used it to kill the woman he loved. The blackness that leaks out is actually corrupted and consumed Breaths, the ones that Nightblood leeches off anyone who draws him. It does, however, say that its name came from the smoke it leaks, a name that came about after Vasher used it and consumed breaths. It doesn't make much intuitive sense for the black smoke that results from its use to appear before it's actually used does it? Is there some other source for the claim? Otherwise, it should probably be changed or deleted. 3
