Kobold, what exactly does Vondra use the Epics for? I'm thinking that the climbing Epic I mentioned earlier could work for him. I'm picturing him/her as an assassin/spy kind of person.

He uses Epics for all sorts of odd jobs that his human forces can't handle. I envision some of them being soldiers he uses to keep the peace, others as mostly used for logistics.

He could definitely use the climbing Epic as a spy or assassin.

For the Dalles, does Vondra have an Epic second-in-command?

Vondra hates Epics. He uses them, but he gives them as little authority as he can get away with. So on that count I'll have to go with "no."

There could be a relatively trusted Epic he gives higher profile missions to, however.

I'll come up with that bio soon then. I'm thinking the natural frequency one will be an Epic trying to come take over. Being able to whistle at a frequency that can break objects makes one pretty arrogant. ;)

Trying to come up with ideas for Epics...what about one that can look at vanillas and know instantly their name, age, etc. like stuff that goes on a police record?

That should be an interesting fight. I'm inclined to think that Vondra's police force could manage to take him out, but it might be a closer fight than they're used to if he's able to shatter their bullets mid-flight.

Ooh, I like that one. If his power works on Epics too, it would help him really tick off other Epics.

Kobold, did you want to start WHiTD with Backtrack, or did you want me to start it with Koschei? Either way is fine.

Here's my idea for the starting post:

We see Koschei's horrifying POV sequence, then the scene cuts to the modern day, where Backtrack is becoming physically ill from having to delve inside a mind that twisted. The post could end with one of Vondra's patrol units coming across him and the twins and dragging them into town.

That would be really cool. :D

I'll post it when I get off work, then, since I have it all written out on my laptop and re-typing it from memory on my phone might be a bit of a challenge. :P

Does that mean we're skipping the hour-long car ride where Backtrack chatters incessantly about Star Trek and Firefly to the twins? :P

Would he be too OP if he learned their weaknesses, though?

Also, another whacky idea for either Portland or the Dalles: An epic who can turn any inanimate object into a bus. Yes. A bus. It comes with a full tank, and will turn back into whatever it was when the tank runs out. Only 1 bus at a time.

Here is Edgerunner's bio. Edge dancer, you should like this. ;)

Epic Name: Edgerunner

Human Name: Emma Runes

Weakness: <PM'd to the GM>

.

Primary Power: Friction manipulation. Edgerunner can manipulate her own friction. She can increase her friction, allowing her to climb vertical surfaces as well as decrease it, which allows her to slide around. She can also change the friction of inanimate objects.

Secondary Power: Gravity manipulation. Edgerunner can manipulate her own gravitational pull. (eg Basic Lashing)

Passive Power: Accelerated healing. It isn't much faster than normal, but allows her to heal from diseases or small wounds quicker than normal. It is three times faster than a regular human's.

Appearance: Small and lithe, Edgedancer has long, curly, dark hair. She keeps it pulled back out of her face with a black headband. She tends to wear a dark blue zip up hoodie. She also wears dark colored leggings. Black boots complete her outfit.

Age: 19

Home City: The Dalles

Weaponry: A knife inside her hoodie pocket, and a knife strapped to her right forearm. She keeps a very small emergency pistol in her boot.

Edgerunner is quiet and tends to lurk in the back of conversations. She is stealthy and sneaky. She hid when Koschei came into town and was able to stay away from him. She now works as a spy and assassin for Mayor Vondra.

Edit: I picture her as a Catwoman mixed with a powered down Edgedancer and Windrunner.

Although that might be excellent for characterization and comedic purposes, it could also detract from the story's flow. So yes. :P

That would be kind of OP, yes. I like him otherwise though.

But we already had a Ron Wilson, Bus Driver. :P In all seriousness, that actually sounds like a neat Epic. Care to have him in charge of The Dalles transportation?

Maybe he could learn everything but weaknesses and powers.

If that's the case, I should up the limit to like 10 busses.

That sounds good. So he's currently restricted to name and former occupation?

I imagine him as having a bitter rivalry with Arsenal, who can create permanent busses out of thin air. :P

I could bring in Snakehands. Don't know what he'd do except tick everyone off and say "I AM SNAKEHANDS! SERVE ME, LESSER MORTALS!" but I could bring him in. :P

And Backtrack suddenly felt his self-confidence soar, because no matter how much he gets picked on, at least he's more useful than Snakehands. :P

Nathan stopped in his tracks. "I know that guy."

Sam frowned. "From Newcago?"

He nodded. Just as Sam began looking for the nearest exit, he laughed. "That's Snakehands! I love that guy!"

Sam took in the haughty lift of his brows, the superior smirk on his lips. "He doesn't look very lovable."

"He is. Watch." Nathan put his fingers to his teeth and whistled. "Hey! Snakehands!"

Snakehands turned. "HOW DARE A LESSER MORTAL PERFORM AN ACTION THAT IS BENEATH ME!"

Sam wasn't sure if it was the look on his face or the fact that his arms were literal cobras, but she burst out laughing.

"THE LESSER MORTAL DARES TO LAUGH AT LORD SNAKEHANDS?"

Nathan pulled Sam behind a table. "Does he always talk like that?" She asked when her giggles were under control.

Nathan nodded as his own bout of laughter drove him to a coughing fit. "I've always wanted to do that."

Name, age, former occupation, family, relationship status, Epic-ness (if they are one or not), etc.

Well, at least the BusDriver's come with a full tank of gas :P

At that moment, Lightwards strode into the room. He wore his newly finished dinosaur coat, idly fingering the pistol at his side with the same stony expression he'd worn ever since he set foot in The Dalles.

He stopped in his tracks, making eye contact with the strange man in front of him.

"I AM LORD SNAKEHANDS!" the Epic proclaimed loudly. "I AM TO TAKE YOU ARE THE LESSER MORTAL THAT CALLS HIMSELF LIGHTWARDS?"

It was a tense moment. Snakehands sniffed pompously, his hands hissing slightly as they coiled in the air.

Eternity seemed to pass as Lightwards quietly stared at his new acquaintance. Then, slowly, almost imperceptibly, his mouth began to twitch.

And Lightwards began laughing hysterically.

Nathan and Sam exchanged glances with raised eyebrows as Lightwards fell onto the nearest table, clutching his side and letting out a loud, earnest belly laugh like they'd never heard from him before. Every so often the necromancer would try to regain control of himself to make some comment, only to begin banging the table with a raucous cackling.

From that day onwards, Lightwards was a new man. He set free all of his zombies, even setting them up with a reliable employment at a dinosaur park in Costa Rica. The Empire of Light was officially renamed as the Empire of Laughter, and Lightwards from that moment forth spent all of his time following an increasingly irritable Snakehands and laughing at him.

And then Nighthound laughed so much that he died.

And they all lived happily ever after. Except Snakehands, who was not amused at the amusement Lightwards derived from his presence, and Nighthound, who was dead. But the rest of Oregon lived happily ever after without Nighthound.

Here is a Epic for either Dalles or Portland either one.

She was mean even before Calamity struck but after... well she just Epicly worse.

Hydron Updated:

Primary Power:  Can control and compress water
Secondary:  While submerged in water, healing is greatly increased.

Name: Steven Polint

Background:  Hydron was one of the first Epics in Oregon to receive their powers from Calamity.  He wandered from place to place, and settled down in the Dallies.  Shortly after he did, Koschei took over the town, preventing Hydron from ruling.  Hydron didn't like Koschei, so he stayed out of his way and eventually even had disguised himself as a normal human.  He survived Koschei's rule by completely hiding from all Epics.  After he was removed, Hydron decided to follow the mortal Vondra, and which kept his humanity mostly to the fore while he assisted Vondra in creating a more civilized place.

Twi, is what I wrote about Korshei acceptable?  And Kobold, same question about Vondra.

Koschei (not Korshei) was pretty aggressive about recruiting, so Hydron would have had to stay out of his way completely, perhaps even disguising himself as a vanilla, if he wanted to avoid joining him. An Epic with powers as useful as his would have been high on Koschei's "Join me or die" list.

Other than that, it looks good.

Most Epics responded to Koschei with "Haha! What are you going to do, heal me to death?"

Then Koschei would [DATA EXPUNGED] and everyone fell into line. :o

@Tulir: looks acceptable to Mine Eyes. I like Hydron. :)
