Adoption and Disownment in the Smedry Family

We know that people marrying into the Smedry family gain a Smedry Talent. Which implies that being excepted into the Smedries literally just makes you a Smedry. And presumably if a Smedry couple divorced, the non-blood Smedry stops being a Smedry and loses their Talent. Would that work with adoption? For example, if a Smedry adopted a child would that child get a talent? And vice versa, if a Smedry disowned their child, Would they lose their talent?
