I'd like to help out

Hi, I'm relatively new to 17thshard but I possess extensive Cosmere knowledge, especially regarding Mistborn and, well, I'd like to help the Wiki out.

Exuse me but it seems rather... lacking. And I really would like to help out so if somebody could point me in the right direction, well, I could be a powerful tool. Preferably Mistborn related. That is, so to say, my field of expertise.

So, yeah, what can I do to help out?

Ooo, I certainly would not dissuade you from editing ;) There's certainly a lot to be done. There a lot of sinfully bad stubs which aren't at all useful.

Here's the list of Mistborn articles: http://coppermind.17thshard.com/wiki/Category:Mistborn

I don't know what you're thinking of editing, so hey, pick whatever tickles your fancy. I'd recommend you away from the magic-related articles, since while those ones aren't necessarily the best, they at least display most of the necessary information. People, places, and lore need the most help.

Some particularly awful ones:

Urteau. So... descriptive, especially for a city we've actually been to.

Hero of Ages. This could be radically expanded, since there's a ton to talk about when it comes to the Hero of Ages, with all the backstory with Alendi and Kwaan and everything.

The Ascension. Again, vast expansions needed.

The Final Empire. This one has stuff, but it isn't displayed very effectively, and could be a far more complete analysis on that time period's history and culture.

Anyway, there's plenty to do. Pretty much any article you click there, there's improvement to be done. I seriously appreciate you editing even one thing, man. :)

I concur with Eric, any and every contribution you make, whether it just be lots of little spelling or layout tweeks, or bigger more grand rewrites of what we have to be more complete and particularly more readable, every idea you have is welcome. Pretty much anything and/or everything you do we will be grateful for.

So yeah, just edit away. Any and every article is up for pretty much constant improvement, and as long as you dont mind others tinkering with your edits, everything goes :D

Well, the Urteau article just got expanded by a couple hundred percent. I am, however, sure that it could have been phrased way better.

Don't you worry about that. The beautiful thing is that wikis are all crowdsourced, so don't worry, we can all edit each other.

It's great! :D

I have more questions! Starting a new thread seemed sorta pointless. So, I was wondering if there's a list or something where people specified what articles they're researching/ writing. Cause atm I am just snapping up random pages in the stubs/ redlinks and working on them, but I'd feel bad if I were to jump into a major one and put in work if someone else was doing so already. Waste of resources and such.

Or can I just continue the random editing?

Also I was wondering if there's a specific format you guys are wanting to use for characters, houses etc cause so far I haven't really considered it much, and when I looked at other pages to see if I could just copy a pattern from there I couldn't really figure something out.

So far I've just done a few seperations, but of course they're just at random and I'm more than willing to change them to whatever you guys would like >.>

For example Kliss and House Tekiel

At the moment there's not really enough activity to require any sort of mutexing of articles, and I dont really want to encourage ownership/maintainership of articles, I'd rather everyone felt happy to edit everything.

Other than the infoboxs there's not really any structure to any of the articles. I'd prefer there to be less structure than more. Another rule of thumb, other than the Notes section, there should probably be less than 2 sections on any stub, and all sections should be at least a paragraph in length. Sections like 'appearance' and 'family' are probably always going to be too small, and should probably be left in the space prior to the first heading.

I'm also new here and I have already edited some articles. But English isn't my native language, so I worry about my grammar. I do my very best though.

And then I have one more question, concerning the Mistborn trilogy...

Is there an official term for the war between the New Empire and Ruin's koloss army? I've always called it the "Atium War" so far, since it's all about Ruin trying to find the Atium ... But I'm not sure.

well the Alethi vs Parshendi is so far only the Vengeance Pact (afawk) which could cover the whole conflict, with particular battles (like the battle of the Tower) too.

BTW, thanks for the contributions Rik, I've been looking through them and they're pretty awesome :D

Eh, a pact is different from the name for the war in my opinion. A pact would seem to be an agreement to go to war among the highprinces, the war would be the name for the actual conflict between the Alethi and the Parshendi. So they'd create the Vengeance Pact to start the ________(insert eventual canonical name) War. It might just be semantics though.

Okay, I was just wondering, because it I think it deserves an article. Just one other question:

Is "Battle for Scardrial" the term for the battle for the Pits of Hathsin or for the fight between Ruin and Preservation in general?

And thanks alot @Joe ST! I really appreciate it!!

The battle for Scadrial is currently the non-canonical name for the last engagement before Sazed's Final Ascension. It's up for change, if a better, or more canonical name comes along.

I wondered because in the article it is said that it lead to the death of Rashek, though he died some year before.

But wouldn't it be more clearly to say "the battle for the Pits of Hathsin"? On the other hand "the battle for Scadrial" sounds more epic...

incomplete information is so much fun!

Welcome to 90% of Coppermind articles :P

But yes, there's much work to be done, and we do need to start figuring out the style guide.
