“Do I?” Rue shut the door to her room and stepped around him.

"If you don't want to talk about it, that's fine. But know it does matter to me a great deal."

“Why?” Rue asked before she could stop herself. “It shouldn’t.”

"Because I care about you. Because you're my friend, and you deserve to be cared about."

“How good of you to think that.” He’s lying. He has to be lying, he must have found a way. He’s just trying to get me to let my guard down, to stop…to…Rue shivered involuntarily. I’m not the problem. I’m not. I’m just staying alive.

Melody finally got up.

It wasn't something she wanted to do, or something she technically had to.

I don't have to leave. I don't.

She could only think about what happened last night.

"Do the honorable thing..." The voices seemed to say, whispering at her from around every corner.

"No. No. No."

She quickly fled her room, and tried to find her friends.

"They aren't your friends. You've never had friends." She hated those whispers. Because they were true.

"Do the very thing you are afraid of doing. Make everything better."

"I hate you." She spoke out loud, silencing the room.

They were not there ever.

She was fighting herself.

I need my friends.

She paused, then thought about what the whispers told her.

I still need them anyways.

She got up, and left the room, searching for Ezrium or Elan or someone.

"I swear it's true. I'm sorry you've been hurt too badly I'm the past to believe anyone can really care. But I do."

Elan was sitting next to Luna in the hallway. He looked up, seeing Melody. He felt that something was... off. "Are you... alright?" He asked.

Hallway:

Melody found Ash, Jar man and Aventine in the hallway.

Not exactly what she was looking for, but it would work.

"No," Melody responded, "Not at all."

Rue snorted. “People can care. They can really believe it, too. Won’t stop them from being monsters.”

"Do you want to talk about it?" Elan asks. He could handle one more person. Their emotions were heavy, but... he could get through.

"I've realized something," she said, "The world would be better without me."

Elan froze. "No. No it wouldn't be." He said quickly. Not this. He thought. Anything but this. "Really, it's not true."

Aventine raised an eyebrow, which forced her mouth into some smirk or smile - it looked strange against her splotchy face. "The thought is understandable completely, but right after helping someone out from a dark place? The timing just interests me." Her hair dripped water onto the floor.

Aventine understood that completely. She rarely ever knew what to do - she'd always been told what to do. "I really don't either. Know what I do most of the time?"

"I improvise. Sometimes it isn't the best idea - I mean, you guys know what just happened. But I try not to plan things out. My whole life up to this point was planned by other people and ended up not being to good on my mental state. So, I just avoid plans altogether. I try to do what I can for others. Admittedly, I probably need to do more for myself, too - but hey, baby steps." She turned to Jar Man. "And you really need to stop."

"oh, shush." jar man gives a dismissive gesture jokingly.

"My entire life has been a plan." Melody sighed, "And now it's spiraling out of control. I can't improvise. I just can't."

“Just uh…” Elan swallowed. If he said something wrong… well… it would be his fault. “Just… we love you. You know that. If you weren’t here… well we would be in a horrible situation.”

"They're lying." The whispers said, "Don't trust them."

"I- For real? Actually?"
