.S.A.M.K.M Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I have warbreaker, elantris, way of king, and the mist born trilogy, so which are the best way to read them. Irealise they are sepperate, but they are each a fragment of the same universe so what order would be best.
CrazyRioter she/her Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 you'll probably wanna read WoK last as it has the most outside references, other then that, any order will do.
dj26792 he/him Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Im not sure it matters, I read Mistborn first and then WoK, then I think Elantris before Warbreaker, i read them both on the same day, the order is a bit blurry in my mind now... But I think in hindsight while it wouldnt make any difference I would read them in the order they were written, Elantris, Mistborn, Way of Kings, but that would just be to have a logical starting point rather than for any real reason.
firstRainbowRose she/her Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 The in cosmere chronology at this point is Elantris, MB, WB, WoK, and finally Alloy is set shortly after WoKs. However, it doesn't matter too much what order you read them in.
spacemonkey he/him Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Actually, Alloy takes place before WoK chronologically. It's the second Mistborn trilogy, which has yet to be written, that occurs at about the same time as the WoK.
firstRainbowRose she/her Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Per Zas' fantastic question, and Brandon's answer it is after. http://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy_Bookclub/comments/oji9u/the_alloy_of_law_qa_with_brandon_sanderson/#c3huhis I intended them to be happening roughly close to one another, with WOK slightly before.
Chaos he/him Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Huh. I totally missed this; I thought Alloy was concurrent with Warbreaker. I like the order Elantris, Mistborn, Warbreaker, Way of Kings, and Alloy.
CrazyRioter she/her Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I'd previously heard it was co-current with Warbreaker also.
fiveAM he/him Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I read; MB, WB, WoK, AoL, Elantris. All in all, I think reading them in the publication order is fine. Elantris, MB, WB, WoK, AoL. If you do that, you can sort of see the Brandon's progression as a writer too. It doesn't really matter though but, I think it'll be good for you to read Warbreaker right after Mistborn. In one of the notes for Warbreaker, Brandon mentions how he wrote Warbreaker right after Mistborn because he wanted to create a stark contrast between the 2 worlds. If you just read the back of the books you can already tell, but Mistborn has sort of muted atmosphere with the mists and weak sun, etc. while Warbreaker is super colorful and bright, (after writing MB, Brandon wanted to go to the other side).
