The Night Brigade and Hoid

So we know the Night Brigade is currently chasing Sig cuz the dawnshards he held at some point. 

Does that mean it's likely the Night Bridage that we've seen here and there looking for Hoid (for example in the purelake) as well? Or at least an early version of the organization?

The group looking for Hoid in the Purelake was with the 17th shard, definitely not the Night Brigade.

Hoid is not part of the Seventeenth Shard. They're trying to chase him down.

But we dont know when Night Brigade was founded, and where. Seems like they originated on Threnody, but is also possible they are from Silverlight and were founded by Threnodites from this City. So maybe they were in some point part of 17th Shard and for some reason become mercenaries.

I assume they are trying to locate the current holder of the dawnshard to use as a weapon? 

I guess there are two questions I have about them. 

1) How are they able to locate Sig? Did they already get a spike from the previous holder of the dawnshard? Or is there some other way they could be finding him?

2) When it mentioned the spike leading them to the dawnshard, would it lead them straight to the dawnshard, or just whoever Sig gave it to? If it lead them straight to it, could they also use say,  Hoid, to make a spike? Or does it go in a line from holder to holder?

1) I assume they just track Sig. He's not as good at hiding as Hoid is, presumably.

2) I think it points to the Dawnshard, meaning Hoid has the Dawnshard as of SP4, and probably as of SA as well.

1) But...how so quickly? Like...I assume they don't have fleets and fleets of ships full of shades. How would they just find him with some sort of tracking beacon?

2) So assuming someone got ahold of Hoid, the could use his spike to find the dawnshard? Can you make a spike from someone without killing them?

1) Most likely explanation I can come up with is they can track Sigzil's Skips somehow.

2) As I said I think Hoid has the Dawnshard so they wouldn't need to make a tracking spike from him, but if he gave it up they could also make a spike from him that would lead to the Dawnshard.

3) I think Hoid still has it, yes.

My guess is that they took someone from Roshar that was Connected to him and like they plan to do with Sigzil, they turned them into a spike that they can use to track him.

The spike was said to point towards the Dawnshard and Sigzil told Hoid that if the Night Brigade captured him they'd find Hoid too, so I think it's reasonable to assume that Sigzil passed it on to Hoid.
