Rye walked over to Mike and Erin, whistling out of tune.

"How's it going, guys?" @Experience @The Aspiring Archivist

He thought he could feel something far beneath the ground, a thirst for blood. A... sacrifice? Maybe I could find my way down there, if I knew how... He decided not to speak of it to anyone, for obvious reasons.

Erin flinched, then turned to look at him cautiously. "Who are you?"

"Uhh... Rye. That is my name. Do you like sacrifices? I mean, not like, sacrificing people, but surely you've had interest in the Aztecs and that kind of stuff, right?"

Mike immediately turns towards the newcomer, stepping defensively in front of Erin. He tenses up slightly when he mentions sacrifices, but is mostly confused.

Erin watched him go, then frowned at Mike and whispered. "Did you hear what he said about sacrificing? Why did you step in front of me?"

Erin spoke tensely, even angrily. "Not in that case, right? If he had done something sacrificial, it wouldn't have mattered who he attacked." They took a deep breath. "If we get into an actual dangerous situation, I'm not going to let you leave me behind while you deal with it. Just because you can heal doesn't mean you're invincible, and just because I can't doesn't mean I'm weak and useless."

Mike was stunned at the sudden outburst of emotion. "The type of sacrifice needed for that takes hours, so I'd be fine. Also I never said you were weak. I just care about you and want you to be safe."

Rye twiddled his thumbs nearby, pretending not to listen. I'm so happy they think I actually have the skills and equipment to make a sacrifice! Of course, they weren't supposed to know he was trying to sacrifice anyone in the first place, but he was really liking their overestimations of him.
