However, Peter mentioned (A LONG time ago) that there is one bead that is missing. We don't know where this is, or who has it. Many have assumed that it's Hoid, because he seems sneaky like that, and there is an element that is spoken of in a letter that is probably written by Hoid.

I'm in the middle of re-reading HoA, and actually it seems somewhat likely that Hoid (or someone) should have between 5 and 6 Lerasium beads, at the least.

The book mentions that there were 9 original mistborn/allomancers made so by lerasium. Now, if we were to assume that this excluded TLR, then that means that there were at least 12 beads in the cavern (9 kings + 1 Lord Ruler + 1 Elend + 1 other). That is a very curious number, given that Preservation did so much in multiples of 16. Alternately, if Sazed counted the Lord Ruler among those first 9 allomancers, then 11 is even stranger (at least 12 is even). There were also a number of pottery shards in the well. Assuming that the Lord Ruler broke them when he created the other allomancers, and that he did so while still at the well (rather than taking the discs with him) why were they never cleaned up in the intervening 1024 years? Rashek generally seemed like someone who liked to keep things in order. Unless, of course, the broken pottery wasn't left there by the Lord Ruler.

This is all quite speculative, but I thought I'd share nonetheless.

What if TLR gained his powers from the Well? Then we'd have ten beads (8 kings+1 Elend+1 Hoid), and ten is one of the Numbers of Adonalsium.

In such a supposition's favor is the fact that Sazed makes Spook a mistborn, indicating that this basic process is possible for the non-lerasium version of the shard's power.

However, we also know that holding the power of the shard gives Sazed insight into its past uses (Vin presumably didn't gain access to this since she didn't use the power herself). He knew, because the shard "remembers," what Rashek did with the power. Yet he heavily implies that Rashek used the beads to gain allomancy, and he flat out states that Rashek had the same degree of power as every other original mistborn. If Rashek had made himself a mistborn with the power of the well, rather than the power of the beads, why did he make himself just as powerful as the beads would have?

Also, while 10 is a number of Adonalsium, this would be the only time that we see Preservation do anything related to it.

These aren't powerful arguments, certainly, but something that are hopefully worth considering.

At this point I'm wondering if a critical mass of stored Investiture of a shard in Nicrosil would allow usurpation of the Shard, which seems like it would be way too easy, so probably not.

I think you'd have to be storing at least half the total Shardic power for this to work. That would probably take more nicrosil than even exists.

I was thinking that using/holding the power at the Well did the same thing as lerasium. In other words, Rashek gained Lerasium-scale allomancy as a side effect of using the power.

Sazed should still have known that (HoA chapter 2 bump). Furthermore, if holding the power was enough, then Vin should have been made as powerful (or more so) than Elend: it would have to be actively using the power that would mimic lerasium.

Two possible explanations:

1. It didn't do anything because Vin was already an allomancer.

2. You have to burn the power, not just hold it.

Shard: If someone from Roshar were to burn Lerasium, would it turn them into a Mistborn?

Brandon: If they didn't know what they were doing, yes, they would become a Mistborn.

I think the emphasis on them not knowing what they were doing refers to a modified Shardic Intent relation. Users of lerasium are effectively a Mini-Sliver, since they are holding a part of a body of a god. Their intent in using it, if they don't know what they are doing, is "blank" so to speak, so it goes to the default of making a Mistborn. If someone did know what they were doing, their intent would determine what re-writing of their spiritual DNA would occur. The strengthening of a Mistborn  is just like overwriting a file on a memory card. The "mistborn" part of their spiritual DNA is overwritten with a stronger version.

EDIT= Sorry, this was posted in the wrong thread while I was reading two at the same time XD. still kinda applies though.
