This is still based on numerous assumptions. We know very little about the equipment and technology they arrived with. We only see what it has evolved into over generations of constantly fleeing sunrise, while limited by available resources. As technology evolves based on fuel constraints, capability could have been reduced from being able to easily fly over mountains to what we see. With a range of magic systems and magic based technologies in play, the range of plausible scenarios is quite extensive. 1

How do you thing they found out humans after death produce sunhearths? Definitly some of them died to the sun. They still have their initial ships, even if they were running on Investiture fumes they still should be able to run once or twice around this very small planet and find out about sunhearths. What would be more ambitious than creating your own sun-charged device that would eventually allow you to resurrect? And the people living on that planet would need to be pretty ambitious at the start to make living their work. We learn that the Deepest Ones are mountain sized monsters on Threnody, and then we learn that this new planet has Mountain sized features that don’t make sense. Hmmmm. HMMMM I love this take. Absolutely dope. Super ambitious as well.
