mail-mi he/him Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 In the Emperor's Soul, Shai explains that there's a point in time where 2 bricks stop thinking they're bricks and instead a wall. The theory is that that is the same thing that makes it so, say, a gun has only 1 steel/iron line pointing to it instead of like a dozen. Thoughts? 2
happyman he/him Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 In the Emperor's Soul, Shai explains that there's a point in time where 2 bricks stop thinking they're bricks and instead a wall. The theory is that that is the same thing that makes it so, say, a gun has only 1 steel/iron line pointing to it instead of like a dozen. Thoughts? This makes a good deal of sense. I would add, though, that the pieces still retain memories of also being bricks. Which would explain why good Allomancers don't have to pull on the center of mass---they can also detect the smaller, less defined but still extant pieces.
Oudeis he/him Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Except remember, allomancers aren't even that limited. A single metal bar surely has only one cognitive aspect, yet in his last fight, Kelsier Pulled on one end of a bar and Pushed on the other to make it spin in the air like a windmill.
mail-mi he/him Posted August 28, 2014 Author Posted August 28, 2014 @Outis Well you can also put 2 stamps on 1 wall. Same principle there.
TheSilverDragon he/him Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 How is it that the Steel Inquisitors can see many blue lines all around them. Is there just that many metal bits all over the place or can you see other things if you want to?

Is there just that many metal bits all over the place or can you see other things if you want to? There's metal everywhere. Everyone's body contains trace amounts, there's probably trace amounts of metallic dust everywhere on Scadrial what with the ash, that sort of stuff. Any Coinshot or Lurcher could learn to see these trace amounts apparently, but only the Inquisitors have devoted the time because it's the only way they can see. 2

Kelsier practiced pushing and pulling so much that he became a bit of a savant at it. The Inquisitors had multiple spikes for pushing and pulling, so they were innately extra powerful at it. Strength from hemalurgy instead of Savantism... Maybe they are the same thing, at the end of the day?
Shadowspren he/him Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Strength from hemalurgy instead of Savantism... Maybe they are the same thing, at the end of the day? They are most likely similar to an extent... however being a savant isn't adding anything to the body, it is just an overuse of ones Allomantic ability. Whereas Hemalurgy is an addition to the body. However I remember it saying somewhere that becoming a savant changes the person completely... is that right or am I making that up? 1
Voidus Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 BRANDON SANDERSONNo, being a Savant is when you burn so much it alters your spirit, Compounding is similar but different. And I think there's something else either in the annotations or the books somewhere.
Oudeis he/him Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 @Outis Well you can also put 2 stamps on 1 wall. Same principle there. Can you? The only time that I can recall when we've seen multiple stamps on a wall was when every stamp was one facet of a a larger, cohesive forgery; the initial stamps were inert until the final stamp completed the forgery and activated them. Or is there another time I'm not recalling? And remember, when Shai escaped, she needed a chamberpot as part of her plan. She took a vase, pried off the stamp, and placed her own. Pressed for time as she was, presumably if it was as simple to just stamp her own over the old one, she'd've done that, instead.
