So i just came up with this and have no real idea if all this is true but the information we know is

Wayne got his lucky hat from a cab driver

-Hoid was on Scadrial watching wax and Wayne poised as a cab driver

so my idea is that Wayne's hat could have been Hoids hat and has a chance that its invested. i know its probably not true but Id like to think Wayne was at least kinda right about the hat being special. also yes at this point Wax hadn't hired Hoid but he was maybe still poising as a cab driver on the planet just to keep a watch on Harmony sword. just wanted to see what you guys thought about it.

I suspect either his disguise powers or his hat had something to do with his resonance

I really want this to be true now.

Yes, I don't want to be a downer but hoid only started posing as a driver in the 7th book.

Actually, this isn't true. I don't have access to the books rn, but he showed up as Wax's carriage driver in either AoL or SoS

@Qianweilian is correct. Hoid is hired for the job shortly after the (Staged) death of Edwarn and Telsin (spoilers - WaT Epilogue), and his first appearance as Wax's Coachman is SoS Ch 7:

Spoiler

“You still need private time for that thinkin’ of yours?” Wayne asked.

“Yes.”

“Never touch the stuff myself,” Wayne said. “Causes headaches. Hey, Hoid. Can I catch a ride up there with you?”

The new coachman shrugged, making room for Wayne on top of the carriage.

Is unlikely to be true because Wayne "got" his lucky hat in the roughs and brought it with him to Elendel (where it was stolen by Tarson - AoL Ch 5). It could still have come from Hoid - just not when he was posing as Wax's Coachman (we do not know if/when Hoid was on Scadrial between the Catscendre and the events of AoL).

Hope that Helps

Oh, sorry. It has been a while since I read AoL. I didn't mean to cause any confusion.

Tis fine. We are all friendly here.

There was a really fun theory before The Lost Metal that I was hoping for. The idea was that Wayne is actually a full feruchemist and was using Identity with hats that were lined with Aluminum. Basically saying that he could store aspects of his identity in a way that would help him better take on new identities, which was why he was so good at disguises. Cause a lot of people line their hats with aluminum to prevent being influenced by soothing/rioting, and it would then give more meaning to why a hat he had for a longer time would be more important to him (even if he wasn't totally sure what he was doing with it) because it had stuff stored in it.

But I guess it's still just as cool that he was just really talented and skilled at the disguises.

That is a cool theory and I like that
