"Indeed. They both follow the same basic principle of extending one's own perceptions. A Force Meld must combine your awareness of another person's Presence into a more direct union - Similarly, the mind processes every sense separately, and only combines them in a secondhand way. By allowing your awareness to combine, you can accomplish this higher level of perception."

Cloud meditated, trying to reach out the way Miss Witch had said. After a few minutes, he could feel Feisyyd's mind, as well as the minds of the others gathered around. But . . . nothing else. He could assume things were there, like the grass and the rocks, but he couldn't feel them at all. Just the minds of those around him.

I'm probably doing something wrong . . .

He tried harder to mentally touch grass.

As she predicted, the new one was having... difficulties. But he was more adept than perhaps she had expected.

"Cloud," Master Feisyyd said, voice a little more patient than usual, "you're familiar with Deception, correct?"

"Like the spell that makes people do what I want? I'd say more then familiar, it's the best spell I've got."

"My livelihood, even."

"Indeed. The Mori'Kar, or the Mind Touch - though many simply call it the Jedi Mind Trick nowadays." The corner of her mouth poked up. "The will of Deception surrounds you. You likely aren't aware of it, but you weave a slight amount of it into every word you speak."

"You would to if you were staying with a bunch of weird cult people and under threat by an even weirder even culty-er dude."

" . . . I think, maybe because I've spent so long focusing on peoples minds, I have a hard time seeing anything else."

"Don't misunderstand - this speaks of a notable proficiency in the Force. It is an energy field that all thoughts and things are present in, flowing through all things. Allowing yourself to become a conduit for the energy it carries is the first step in Jedi training, and it seems you've already mastered it." She shifted herself over a little. "However, your constant presence in the Force means that you can be traced with ease. The Force will carry your thoughts, intents, and actions into the world around you, meaning they are open for all to see.

"In other words, it would be impossible for you to land even a single blow on even my padawans here, let alone the Sith Assassin." Feisyyd opened her eyes to look over at him. "So before you try to teach yourself the basics of Truesight, you must learn to more delicately control your Presence. Concealing oneself completely is nigh-on impossible - in fact, I am still unsure how Krarik managed to arrive here undetected - but you can withhold any projections of your Intent with even just minimal training."

"yeah that makes sense, I'm used to being the only witch around after all, so uh, how do I start?"

Cloud laughs nervously, "All the time Miss Witch, all the time."

"It is impossible, put simply. Lies to oneself are told subtly, and without intent. Awareness, put simply, eliminates Deception - they are opposites." Feisyyd closed her eyes again. "That said, Cloud, you should be quite capable of discerning your own Perception, considering how closely related it is to the art you're so talented at."

He shrugged, "I guess? sometimes I realize I sort of made myself forget about something . . . like subconsciously? its hard to describe."

"So how to stop doing it to hide from people?" It made Cloud uncomfortable to know people could sense him so easily.

"When you use the Mind Touch, you enact your will through the Force. I'm sure you know the sensation well, so try to deconstruct its parts and find the most fundamental aspects of the technique. Once you have done this, you will know the purest essence of the Force and how it interacts with you - and once you know that, you can learn to control its shifting about your mind."

Rajib meditated, feeling pretty much all living things near him. If they were honest with themselves, they felt guilty that they hadn’t sensed Krarik’s arrival. They had the strongest Force Sense in the order, it was their responsibility to notice Sith Assassins infiltrating the planet.

While they meditated, they did something that they almost never did: they opened their eyes. They saw near them the others from yesterday, training under Master Feisyyd. It was strange to think that Aria, the little girl they had once known, was now one of the greatest masters, perhaps the greatest, on Tython. To see her training today’s padawans was almost inspirational.

"Okay . . ." Cloud searched inside his mind. He was pretty sure he could feel it . . . his constant pushing out with the force. A natural reflex, developed long ago.

He tried to quell that part of him. It was difficult, because it required forcing himself to relax, like completely relax, not just outwardly. He focused on the sound of the wind pushing through the trees and took some deep breaths just to be sure.

"Okay . . . I think . . . I think I've stopped doing the spell? Can you feel me?"

"Master Rajib," Nayla said with a whisper, leaning towards him a little. "Have you ever fought a Sith before?"

"I can, yes. But your Presence has been obscured significantly." Feisyyd smiled. "You catch on quick, Cloud. Even this fundamental level of Presence control will go a long way should you face an enemy like him again."

"Yaay," he said, trying to not break his focus.

Now to figure out how to sense everything else. He could hear the trees, so you would think . . .

Did trees have brains?

Did they think?

Well probably not but if he pretended they did maybe he could feel them?

He continued to stretch his mind.

Reelwiron stretched his mind out towards everything else, like he did during meditation, but for some reason, could not keep still, and the meditation did not calm him as it once did, "What is wrong with me" he thinks to himself, before continuing to try and do as his master asked.

Rajib nodded. “Several times. I fought in the war as a knight, while training my Padawan. I escaped unscathed the first several times, brought a few into custody. But it was the last time that was the worst. I was on a mission with my old master, named Astrainva, and we had just captured an important Sith, the two of us working together for the first time in several years. It was my first mission since my Padawan finished his training, and I was glad to have company. We ran out of fuel, though, and had to land on an unexplored planet in the Mid Rim while waiting for other Jedi to come with ships. A few days before we had met up with my old friend, Azana, so it was just the three of us. The Sith escaped  within a few days, as we had not the materials to hold him back. It wasn’t long until Azana began confiding in me. She had always struggled with some parts of the Jedi code, and she told me that she had found a better way. I realized then that she was on the way to the Dark Side of the force, but I lied to myself, and said that she wasn’t. I procrastinated in telling Astrainva, as Azana had been my friend for many years and I did did not want to betray her. Eventually, I told her, but I focused on how I did not believe she was so far gone. Still, Astrainva angrily went to talk to Azana and I, eavesdropping, saw Azana pull out a lightsaber—red—and stab Astrainva. I ignited my own and the two of us dueled for a while.” A few tears fall down Rajib’s cheeks as he tells the story. “I killed her, Nayla. She was my best friend in all the galaxy and I ended her life. After I got back to the temple, I retired from the war and began working my current job, as a librarian. I haven’t been in a fight at all until yesterday.”

(Aria is Master Feisyyd's first name. Nayla's the lil baby padawan who I had a blast drawing.

Nayla, caught a little off-guard by the sudden vulnerability, didn't have much to say.

There were many... mixed feelings today. Fear, regret, shame, frustration... Perhaps teaching by meditation wasn't the best idea right after an honest-to-Mortis Sith Assassin had just shown up. Let alone how his Dark Presence lingered in the air and reeked of evil; he'd just threatened to slaughter the entire Temple in three days.

"Very well," Master Feisyyd said, coming to a stand. "Come walk with me."
