Workshopping a music magic system

So I’m working on this music magic system, but I’m not sure how to execute it. I know I want singing in specific keys, maybe, to produce particular effects, but I can’t figure out the effects. I already have a magic system for that world that does basic manipulation of reality kind of thing, light, gravity, etc. So I think this one should work for manipulating human thoughts or emotions or something. Any ideas?

if I was the one in charge of it, I'd have it be that you need multiple notes to perform actions: either to sing a whole few lines, or to harmonize with others into a chord

Yeah that was kinda the idea. Like the more notes and chords you play or sing the more complex actions you can do. This magic system doesn’t need all that to be meticulously planned since it’s a softer system. I just need like if you sing in this key or something you can do this kind of thing, like categories.

Could take the classic fantasy idea of the universe originating with some deific song and have each concept/spell/category have its own background tune. The closer you can get to mimicking the background tune for that particular magic effect, the more power you can eke out of what you're trying to do.

While that is an excellent idea, it doesn’t fit with the lore I have established as I’ve built this universe over time. This is going to be one of at least four worlds, only one of which has had a story started on (I’m a slow writer). I’ve just been trying to figure out all my magic systems to make the whole process easier. There is a deity on this world that focuses on innovation and artistry, which is where the artistic focus of this world’s magics comes from (the other one focuses on color). But I don’t know exactly how to make this one work with the established lore.

My first idea as I read this could be that as you sing a song, (maybe different songs for each kind), in a scale, (these could be major, minor, harmonic, melodic, add majors/minor 7ths, 6ths…etc…), they could each have different effects. Like as you do a normal major it could be confidence or strengthening yourself, minor could be like and emotional attack to someone like making them panic. And then you would make the others do other stuff. But their bases could be like major and minor and they can start there at personnel magic vs effecting others.

So perhaps major and minor equals internal and external, and then particular keys(? I’m not versed in musical terminology) do something like emotions somehow, either dampening or increasing emotions or thoughts maybe?

Yes also you might talk about how the emotional stuff might carry though to phi social. Like if major made you confident in your stregh or skill, it would also make you a little more skillful and strong.
