Eerongal he/him Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I'm just curious, what does everything is going to happen with Shen (the parshman bridgeman)? I'm convinced he's going to play a greater role in later books somehow, however, is he going to be a good guy or bad guy? Will he turn out to be a spy for parshendi/someone else? Will he "awaken" to become a parshendi and fight with kaladin and the bridgemen? Will he continue to stare dumbfounded at stuff? I know we obviously can't know what will actually go on with him, but i'm just curious what everyone else thinks. Personally, i think he's going to end up helping/fighting for/saving kaladin and his men.
Munin he/him Posted September 16, 2010 Posted September 16, 2010 I think he's gonna be how we finally find out whether or not there's a true difference between the Parshmen and the Parshendi. No idea which way that'll go, though.
Silus - Shard of Flame he/him Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 I'm betting that we'll get some slow progression from him until he's a full fledged character. I wouldn't be surprised if an upcoming book featured him as a major viewpoint. But I wouldn't figure that in until about book four or five at least.
Link Von Kelsier Harvey he/him Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 I'm gonna say we definitely get a Szeth book before we get a Shen book. And Brandon also said in an interview that Jasanah would get her own book (or at least would become a major viewpoint character). So, if Shen does get his own book, it would be 5 or 6 earliest.

I dunno, that just seems like a REALLY long time for shen to be bumping around being unimportant. Even if he doesnt get his own book, which im not saying he WILL, i would be betting something comes of him before then.
Link Von Kelsier Harvey he/him Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 He could definitely play a very important role, and get viewpoints without being the "focus" of the book. Yeah, we could totally see stuff from him before then. I kinda went off on a tangent about getting his own book there.
Ryan he/him Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 If he does have a significant role, I suspect it will be in helping that's Jasnah/Shallan figure out what the Parshmen really are. He's almost certainly not going to be on the Kaladin-led Dalinar protection squad; he'll probably get folded into Camp Kholin's Parshman workforce, where he may or may not distinguish himself by behaving differently than other Parshmen, causing Jashallan to notice him.
Zas678 he/him Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 I doubt that. I bet that Kaladin will keep him close, just because he endured bridge four. He probably won't be a bodygaurd or a soldier, but neither will Rock. But I bet that Kaladin will probably see them both fairly often.

Simply because kaladin was trying to enforce the idea and making accommodations for him being part of "the group", and i dont see him dropping that just because they do a different job now. I pretty much see bridge 4 sticking together for as long as possible (and probably still calling themselves bridge 4)

This is awesome. I certainly think that Shen is where we see the Parshmen/Parshendi evolution (remember, Pokemon is canon. Wait )
Ipood he/him Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 He could be the secret protaganist, the centerpiece of the story, a bit like Sazed, and he would get the tenth book (Was the last book going to be one with memories?)!
Stormlightning she/her Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I think that Shen is the guy that will reveal some big secret...but not necessarily get a lot of face time. His role seems more like Human's in Mistborn.
