So, I finished Elantris. Not as happy with it as I was with Mistborn. It was less absorbing, the characters were a little less dynamic, and I kind of felt like he crammed too much world-building into one novel. It felt more like typical fantasy to me. But still, it wasn't a bad book. It was, after all, his debut. So much was left unanswered, though. D: So very much. Do they answer much in the Emperor's Soul?

Not really, no. The Emperor's Soul is set in a distant part of the world, with an entirely different cast of characters and even magic system.

Eh, okay. 'Course, now I'm all curious about this "Hoid" fellow. In Elantris he was just a begger, and hearing his name around here makes me much more curious.

I feel like his worlds are all so interconnected, I have to read all of his works to understand the big picture. Clever, Sanderson, clever. x_x

Hehehehehehehehehe

Well to understand the Big picture, well yeah. But to understand each world and story......meh, its not necessary. You do get a deeper appreciation for how a lot of things work though.

No, but we do know quite a bit from Brandon. Ask questions over in the Elantris topic.

Emperor's Soul might as well be set on a different world. It takes place in an entirely different region, focused on entirely different problems, and may or may not be centuries offset in time from Elantris, forwards or backwards. It's my favourite Cosmere book, personally, because it doesn't do the whole epic fantasy schtick, not in suggestion, not in scale, not even in reference. It's a clever story that makes you think, with a teensy bit of badass fight scene.
