Paragrin she/her Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 So I was fooling around with the Third Ideal of the Windrunners, trying to see how I would have said it (I'm pretty sure there was a WoB somewhere that it isn't the wording that matters as much as the sentiment (which reminds me of the idea of personal recensions of the Wizard's Oath, from Diane Duane's Young Wizards series (awesome books, btw))) and I came up with this: I will grant protection to any who seek it. Comments on plausibility and more speculated Ideals (both serious and not) welcome.
Ashiok Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Oh wait,.. That kind of protection probably doesn't exist on roshar...

So basically it is saying those that do not explicitly ask for my help as a windrunner won't get it?
el_warko he/him Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I dunno, seems kinda limiting. So basically it is saying those that do not explicitly ask for my help as a windrunner won't get it? Swapping seek with need bypasses that limitation
Pathfinder Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Swapping seek with need bypasses that limitation True, but that does sound somewhat redundant with "I will protect those that cannot protect themselves" vs "I will grand protection to any who need it".Don't mean to be a buzz kill. I would love to go back and forth on what would be the next ideal. Just saying in my own opinion, the one offered doesn't feel right/work
Fallen Rope he/him Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 The third ideal could be about leading, windrunners are protecting/leading on the chart "I will protect those I lead"
wolveryne Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 I think Kaladin's next oath will be something like "I will lead those who are lost." Or "I will lead those who need it." He struggles with doing anything for those he doesn't like, or who he doesn't see as his. I can see him struggling to lead Rashon, or the towns people that were hostile to his family.
Dellexe he/him Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 "I will show others the path to honor." - Maybe? 1
Pathfinder Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 "I will show others the path to honor." - Maybe? This one I am definitely feeling, though to go along with the leadery tilt everyone is going "I will lead others to/on the path to honor"
Dellexe he/him Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 This one I am definitely feeling, though to go along with the leadery tilt everyone is going "I will lead others to/on the path to honor" Yeah, that's what I was kinda going for with that. The whole leading/directing thing.
Paragrin she/her Posted August 20, 2014 Author Posted August 20, 2014 "I will not refuse my help to any who ask it of me." More what I was going for, and less limiting.
Localconfusi0n Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 "I will always do what is right, not matter the cost to myself" Not going with the whole leadership idea really, but I think that's a good one for a Windrunner.
Guest Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 (edited) "I will always do what is right, not matter the cost to myself" Not going with the whole leadership idea really, but I think that's a good one for a Windrunner. Hey, I had that one pinned down, with the exact same wording, as the Dustbringer's first ideal.... Somehow, I think it does not fit for a Windrunner. For the Truthwatchers, I had: "I will seek knowledge wherever I can find it". I think it would be a neat first ideal for Renarin. For the Windrunners, I am thinking something along the lines of "leading and/or inspiring by example", but I cannot find a good wording. Or perhaps something about deserving leadership as opposed as inheriting it. I solemnly swear that I am up to no good. LOL. A good one for a Skybreaker, Nalan's version, I think Edited August 23, 2014 by maxal
