Okay, I'm rereading Oathbringer and I stumbled upon chapter 97, "Riino". I was reading it and it seems like there is an Elantrian in Shadesmar. (Named Riino) Anyways, relevance to Tress now. So in Tress of the Emerald Sea, there is a sorceress name Riina, and she's an Elantrian. This makes me wonder if the two are related.

Anyone else make the connection yet? (Also accepting theories!)

PS let me know if I'm doing anything wrong since I'm very new to the shard, and my first topic post/creating a new topic. Hope I haven't done anything that I'm not supposed to!

Hey, welcome. You're not doing anything wrong.

Those are not related, or rather there are not the same person nor family, but they're both members of the Ire. Riina appeared in Mistborn Secret History as a part of the Ire. Riino was an Elantrian that was put into the Shardpool by Raoden during Elantris book. He is also a member of the Ire, working on Roshar.

Questioner

Why did the Elantrians came to Roshar in the first place? Because the question came up after I reread Elantris, so...

Brandon Sanderson

Are you talking about... specifically... the old ones? Yeah, why were they on Roshar? So, those specific individuals - the Ire, as we call them - are a group of Elantrians that are not representing all Elantrians. They were there. The one you've met is there for a specific reason. The Ire are involved there. They're mostly... where you've seen them, is on Scadrial so far, but they're interested in Roshar. You are talking about the lighthouse keeper, I assume? So, the lighthouse keeper, wouldn't... would be counted, I guess, as one of the Ire and is there for a specific purpose, but it is not related to their general purpose, that they're trying to achieve.

How's that for being vague? I'm sorry.

The lighthouse guy was Ire? In Oathbringer?

Brandon Sanderson

Yes.

Khyrindor

And he was the same Elantrian that they put in the Shardpool at the end of--

Brandon Sanderson

Yes, he is the same person.

Khyrindor

And was he Ire before--

Brandon Sanderson

He was not before then.

Remember many Aonic characters (those from the area around elantris) have part of their names based off of Aons (RAOdon, tAAN, IADon)
