Brightlord Beezus Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 I’m rereading SA and am at the end of WoR. Syl tells Kaladin after they fight Szeth to go after the honorblade that Szeth drops, that it must not be lost. Why is the honorblade so important? Wouldn’t a spren consider them more dangerous because they grant Surgebinding without the Nahel bond? What do y’all think?
alder24 Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 Honorblades grant access to the powers, without restrictions of the bonds and spren. That's why Szeth was so dangerous, as he could act in the way no Honorspren would ever allow. That's why it's so important to prevent them from falling into someone else's hands, as they could utilize them in a very destructive manner, like Szeth did. Also we don't know, but Honorblades might be connected in some way to Oathpact. They were made by Honor himself, and granted to 10 Heralds likely in the same time when Oathpact was made. 1

That’s what I thought. But wondered if there was anything else. Your theorizing on their connection to the Oathpact is an interesting one. Are we supposed to get Taln’s flashback in SA 5? I thought I’d heard that. I hope that if we do, it explains more of the mechanics of the Oathpact.

SA 5 is Szeth, but some mechanics of Oathpact might be expleined as Dalinar might work with Ishar in Shinovar.
