"Oh." He looked a little unsure about the assertion. "Haly, don't you worry that at some point something's going to happen? I mean, something permanent. Like, you'll die and we won't be able to do anything about it."

"I just won't die, then."

He shrugged. "I still can't understand you. Can you understand me? Do you recognize me?"

Wynn reached out hesitantly and traced a finger down Lerac's jawline.

"Tha thu air an toradh ithe. Cò a leig leat na measan ithe?"

"Haly... you can't say anything for sure. I already died once, and I only came back because Lerac died for me. I guess now he's back, but, well, we can't keep this up forever."

"I... still don't understand you." Lerac sighed. "What do you need?" He punctuated the phrase by pointing at her and making sure the question in his voice was clear. Not that she'll necessarily understand that.

"I know. But let's pretend we can." An underlying plea laced her voice, almost a desperate one.

He heard the plead in her voice, but he felt too guilty to let go of his point. "You can't ignore it, Haly. It'll hurt so much worse if and when it happens. Do we have to keep adventuring after this?"

Wynn backed away, as if she expected his hand to shoot lasers or something.

"Tha an t-acras orm. A bheil dealan agad?" She looked around, searching for something.

Btw she's speaking in scottish gaelic.

"Yes--I mean, no, but... TAAron, if I'm not exploring, and killing monsters and saving you... what do I do with myself?"

Im afraid that if I'm not doing anything... I'm worth about the same.

I know, I've been translating it.

He groaned. Does she not get that I can't understand her? He stepped up to her and tried giving a bit of healing energy again, hoping it would have some sort of result.

"I don't know. I'm sure you could find something. And even if you didn't, I'd still love you, for whatever that's worth." Carefully, ignoring the remaining pains from his collision, he stood up from the bed. "But if you really need to, I'll come with you."

She hunched her shoulders and stared at the ground. "I mean, we still have to kill Malum first. I guess we should find Wynn and Lerac."

Ah, we will have to work in a time skip there somehow.

Ah, to interact with people who actually care about these things! Half the people I go to school with don't even know what Scotland is.

Also, Halcy, does the place these characters are in have torches? If not, what kind of light source?

Easy time skip, called ignore it lol.

Wynn gave him a strange look, but didn't seem as afraid as before.

She could maybe find some power source and spend time absorbing it.

"Did anything happen?"

It's like electricity-looking light. Some sort of magic. Prolly should have thought about it before. But that's what it is.

"De a rinn thu? Is urrainn dhomh do thuigsinn a-nis."

(just making up setting details here)

She went to the wall and smashed a lamp, absorbing the energy. She looked at him, blinking, then rubber her eyes.

"Ugh. Lerac, that was seriously weird. I need to find an energy well before something like this happens again."

"Really, no idea. I just... blacked out for a bit or something." She kept her hand on the broken lamp, absorbing energy as it flowed. "Did I miss anything?"

"Not much. TAAron was falling out of the sky when we got here, you caught him. I assume you remember that. He's in the infirmary now I think. Are you sure you don't remember what just happened? You seemed scared of me, and you were speaking a language I didn't understand."

She looked puzzled.

"I what? No, I don't remember that."

Wynn gave him a strange look.

"You mean falbh uam? That's gaelic for 'get away from me'. I haven't spoken that language in a long time... it's nearly dead now. But why would I have said that?" She shook her head. "It doesn't matter. We need to find TAAron and Haly to clue them in on the plan."

"Maybe you should stay here and rest. You were nearly passing out in that blizzard place, and when you finally did here you went all weird. Maybe we should just find a place to sleep and wait until morning. TAAron's got to rest right now, anyway."

She yawned.

"Good idea. Do you know your way around here?"
