"Because," Hyron said, setting their pack down on their bed and sitting down, "You need to recover, you've just held unimaginable amounts of power and almost died, and you shouldn't do that alone."

"Hmm." Miyako chewed that over for a second. "I..ok. Good night, Viney."

"Good night." Hyron said, then lay down on the bed, staring up at the ceiling,  contemplating everything that had happened.

They cursed softly to themselves, then just lay there.

Miyako fell asleep in seconds. She lay sprawled out there, sword half held in her arms, an open canteen next to her head and hair splayed out across the pillow.

With wisps of dreams and thought dancing through her head Miyako slept.

Hyron couldn't fall asleep. Too much had happened, and adrenaline was pulsing through their veins. To remedy this, they listened to Miyako's deep breathing, and breathed in tandem.

Hyron calmed down, and was quickly asleep.

"Yes, people do. But those that take more than they need. They are the people that disgust me."

Annimus's eyes narrow, the thin pupils reflecting the sunlight.

"So, you would have taken more."

"No!" said Anikel, raising his hands defensively. "No need to cut more than that to get the ore. But... well, in the future, there will be more deposits there."

Indeed.

Yerik stared at the ceiling for a long time before he fell asleep.

The next morning, he was awoken by a loud banging on the door. "Wake up!" a soldier was shouting. "Princess Mariel requests your presence!"

Is the soldier banging on Hyron and Miyako's room as well?

Hyron opened their eyes, feeling quite bleary. They rolled over, noting that Miyako was still asleep. They stood, then walked over, kneeling down in front of her bed, watching her sleep.

Miyako seemed to be doing much better after yesterday. Hyron's breath had helped a lot with managing the impulses of her Shadow, so that was good.

"Psst," Hyron whispered, "Wake up."

"...Eej?"

Vance really didn't understand the full extent of what was happening. Sweat rolled down his brow, and tremors worked their way into his fingertips.

"...Kealie?"

They were okay, right?

They were okay.

They had to be okay.

It's my fault if they're not okay.

The golem and demon were still fighting, so they had some time at the very least. At the moment it wasn't very clear which one was winning, but he figured they'd know soon enough. Even if the golem didn't win it would've weakened the demon some, and... maybe Vance could defeat it from there? If he had the aether stone, it was just about decided, but without it...

Where in the world did it go?

"You're gonna be alright, kay?" Vance knelt down for a moment and pressed a hand against Kealie's forehead. Hot. Too hot. He peeled off the blindfold and dropped it by her hand. "Just breathe. Stay here. I'll take care of this. We'll be fine."

She nodded in asknowledgement and closed her eyes, her breathing shallower.

Eej's grip on Vance's boot slackened and, weakly, he crawled to Kealie and went limp again.

A soft whine noise sounded out of the demon as it pulled back from the golem. With one last half-hearted roar it began to fly away from the fight, wings beating above the trees.

A boy, somewhat young with shaggy, dark hair stepped out of the trees and watched the demon fly away, a satisfied grin on his face. He turned to the golem. "Thanks, buddy. Later."

The golem rumbled in dislike and returned to the trees.

"Yeah . . . but doesn't it feel kinda good knowing that you can walk through this place without being chased or hunted?" She asked, "I mean, its way easier to relax!"

"All I feel is how empty my pockets are."

Vance turned around. Was that voice he'd just heard?

"Hello?" He called out.

The boy grinned and waved. "Hey there! What's up?"

"That was--" Vance stood up, instinctively putting himself between the boy and Kealie, "your golem?"

"Nope. Actually, he hates me." Th boy picked his way over to Vance, then held out his hand with a smile. "Blynx Snicker."

Vance shook it, somewhat hesitantly. "But it was taking orders from you."

"Not really. Just the one. I saw the demon and grabbed the golem. He didn't want to fight, but he really hadn't no choice." He quite clearly had made a habit of grinning.

Vance raised an eyebrow. Interesting little guy. "So are you just on your own out here?"

He waved his hand, his grin widening. "Pffft. What a silly thing to think. Nope, actually, wait, you're right! I got banished yesterday."

"Banished?"

"Yep! Apparently, I'm "too free with my abilities". Dad finally caught on that I don't care! And now I can do whatever I want!"

Fair enough. "What abilities?"

“Constraints, if you will. I command my father’s subjects, and I can also project my presence.” He was still grinning just as eagerly. “Listening in on conversations is so fun.”
