TheBreadRuler Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Do you guys think a kandra could Return in Nalthis? Would this restore the kandra to their original human form if they haven't been a kandra for long enough? If they have been a kandra for thousands of years and the Return keeps them that way, what would happen? Would they still need spikes to stay sane? Would they still need bones (Returned have some control over their shape)? I would like to know what kind of resonances would happen, in your opinion, or if it's even possible.

I think that the potential is huge. If the returning undid what TLR did then they would return as a feruchemist right? Returning fills all the gaps in the spiritweb that are messed up. Part of it is having that bonus memory wipe. Which would make the resonances nearly obsolete as the returned kandra would have 1 week to either rediscover it has access to magic that can feed the divine breath or convince someone to give them one. Also. Given that endowment would have to willingly give a kandra a divine breath it would be highly unlikely. (At least I have a slight feeling that a shard would be able to see a kandra for what it is). I think kandra are more likely to gain divine breath via spiking it out of a returned. (are returned human enough to make this a first contract issue?) Perhaps it would be an easier route to stacking immortality to collect 2000 breaths through manipulation / persuasion / collecting the right bones for the job. Heck steal a divine breath. Use the returned bones and collect the breath or two every week until you are satiated.
Quantus he/him Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Yes, it's possible they could be Chosen to be Returned. There are more specific rules on immigrant populations getting ordinary breaths and I dont think Kandra's Generations work in a way that would let them naturalize like normal people. But Divine Breaths are Divine Intervention, so while Unlikely, there is nothing Stopping Endowment from doing it. Only the first Generation of Kandra had a Human form, the rest were born as Mistwraiths. They would probably still need bones as that's more of a mechanical need than anything. They may or may not need the Blessings, and they may or may not require the same Diet and/or portion-size as ordinary Returned, methinks. As far as resonances and/or other magic interactions, the Returned shapeshifting combined with the Kandra would probably synergize great and might not need to digest and place hair, etc. if the Returned Body can push manipulate them like the Royal Locks. There are probably a lot of possibilities with them using Awakening on the bones just like Dakhor bones might do odd things. At an extreme they might be able to Awaken a Lifeless Skeleton and wrap themselves around it like the stone of the Phantoms, but how commands flow between the two might get weird. Quote OrangeJedi Could a non-native be able to be Returned? Brandon Sanderson Yes, that is possible. JoyBlu So someone who was born without a Breath and came to Nalthis could possibly be Returned? Brandon Sanderson Possibly could be Returned. Yes. That's not very likely. JoyBlu So they could get a Divine Breath, even though never... Brandon Sanderson They could be given a Divine Breath, yes. Kandra Returned: Ultimate spy. I figured Returned shapeshifting might help kandra make their own bones. Getting around the hair problem is huge tho. The Hemalurgic spike would probably be consumed by the Divine Breath though. You still need to circumvent thst somehow.

I picture it devolving into that meme about the immaterial ghost shouting at its own zombie body fumbling around. K: "Yessir, I Salute You!" [thwack] Officer: "You...dont have to actually say it every time, you know." K: "Umm, Yessir. I'll take my leave, sir. About FACE! [Heel spin] Forward MARCH! [Starts walking]. Officer: "..." You still need to circumvent thst somehow. Vasher as Zahel in SA uses Stormlight in the place of Breaths, so the weekly Breaths wouldn‘t be a problem. The Kandra could just use metals. I’m actually pretty sure there’s a WoB about this. Just the Divine Breath would be a problem. Now, I haven‘t read Warbreaker, but I‘ve been filled in on most things, but if I get anything wrong, that‘s why. Could a Kandra use an unlocked Investiture metalmind that a returned stored Divine Breath in, or does that not work. My Warbreaker knowledge is limited in some areas, so sorry if I sound like an idiot.
