Hi everybody! I'm new, of course.

I just started reading Brandon Sanderson's work. I started with The Way of Kings. I think a lot of people on the internet advised against starting with this series, but I had my reasons I suppose. I am in an MFA in Creative Writing program. I don't hate the "literary" genre at all, but there's a tendency for fantasy and science fiction to get ignored, or at least discouraged from studying the craft of, for some reason. I just really missed enjoying a series, you know? Not since Harry Potter in the early 2000s have I ever been able to get excited about "the next book" coming out. Most of what I've been reading for the last 15 years or so has been "literary" fiction, single novels that are good, but over and done and then shelved. Then, I usually have to write an essay. Or defend it as a literary model for my own work. So, I ventured to the internet and began a quest to find a current fantasy series that I might enjoy–just enjoy–and eventually decided on Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive series.

Also, I don't have any friends who read. Other than those in the MFA program. That's probably kind of sad, but oh well.

Anyways, hi!

Welcome to the shard!

Have you read any more of his work other than tWoK?

Thanks! No, not yet. Just started with The Way of Kings. Am currently in Chapter 45.

That being said, I did purchase Elantris to read at some point, and have come close to pushing the buy button on Mistborn a few times.

Do you know that the mistborn, elantris, and stormlight archieve series are all in the same interconnected universe? And yes, mistborn is a great series, era 1 and 2.

Yeah, it sounds like it'll be fun once I get further along and get into some of the other books.

Basically what everyone else said. Welcome and glad to have you here to talk about nerd crap. But yeah, nearly every thread in the stormlight forums will have massive spoilers for all of everything.

And if you do get mistborn, you will not be disappointed.

Welcome! We're glad to have you here, but as others said, beware of spoilers!

Thanks! I will be careful for the next few weeks while I try to get caught up, lol.

I'll probably grab it after I start Elantris. And, I'll probably steer clear of most of the forums for 2-3 weeks I'm a fast reader, or so I hear, so hopefully I'll be able to get through the four current Stormlight Archive books fairly fast. The other stuff, I don't know. lol. I might have to just sacrifice some spoils for the socialization.

Good plan, I know how you feel. When I found the forums after reading all of Sanderson's works it was great

Welcome to the Shard!

Once you're at a point where you don't have to worry about spoilers, you're going to have a lot of fun reading theories and discussions.

And I know it's been said before, but Mistborn is indeed worth buying. It won't disappoint.
