They do share that. Though Fabius Maximus was reviled until after Cannae. Not sure that the mink suffered such a problem.

Also I feel like the punic wars are one of the great untapped fantasy novel inspirations.  The drama of 2 great empires, clashing a brilliant and yet ruthless enemy general whose surname means thunder bolt. An arrogant and stupid general who led so many men to their deaths, the delay, and the clash at zama. It was pretty much the real 1st world war(at least most of europe and part of africa, which isnt much more than the 1st world war. on top of this, some historical settings have a certian, oh i learned that in history class vibe. This war is little known enough that you could make a really fresh feeling story from it. We should at least get a good tv show set then.

 

p.s. It cracks me up every time to immagine cato giving a speech like... and that is why it is vital that we rework brundisiums sewer system. Also carthage must be destroyed
