Torsades Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 I don’t know if it’s been previously addressed in WOBs, annotations, etc., but does worship by people grant power to shards, cognitive shadows, etc.? If most Scadrians follow Survivorism as opposed to the Path, does Kelsier gain more freedom or leverage to oppose Harmony? Could Trell be, instead of an avatar of autonomy, just be a super successful cult leader from White Sand planet?

The level of Investiture is still the same, whether people believe in something or not. Like, a Shard that noone believes in is still a Shard with its immense amount of Investiture. That said, there is a certain influence that believing has in Cognitive entities: Quote Brandon Sanderson Chapter Sixty-Four "You did well, Spook." Yes, that's Kelsier's voice at the beginning. As I said in a previous annotation, he can't help but meddle. There is an afterlife in this cosmology I've built, and Kelsier's in it. He never has been able to leave well enough alone. He saw, here, that a piece of the puzzle needed to be put together, so he stepped in and tried to get through to Spook about it. Spook was the only one in the crew he could speak to. That's because Spook truly has faith in Kelsier as a deity—which, for these few weeks between Preservation's death and the coming of the Hero of Ages, Kelsier is. The Hero of Ages Annotations (March 9, 2010) ... which is not exactly a question of power but a question of Connection. That said, of course more/stronger Connections can lead to more power, in a way, but that's probably not what you meant Also, of course, beings like the spren are formed by human beliefs/concepts. But again, this doesn't really seem to affect their level of power. On a side-note, I think even if Kelsier was powerful enough, he wouldn't really work against Harmony. They are still friends, in a way, and trust between friends is basically the one firm principle that Kelsier ever had. 2
