I was reading Rogue Protocol and saw this:

It took place in an alt-word with magic and improbable talking weapons.

Has anyone heard if this is a possible reference to Nightblood?  Curious if there has been talk about this possible connection.

I don't know.... I mean talking swords are an old idea in fantasy, Stormbringer in the Elric series and Turin's sword Gurthang in the Silmarillion/Children of Hurin. (And I believe Tolkien got it from the Kalevala - Finnish myth).
