What happens if you intend to spike someone for Hemalurgy, pound the spike into their heart and then... just leave it there? The obvious answer is that they just die because you rammed a spike into their chest, but I'm wondering if activating it for Hemalurgy makes the spike partially interact with the Spiritual Realm, and if you just end up punching a hole into their soul. The spike would probably get Hemalurgically charged, but if you left it in and it was able to provide the host with the same attributes that got stolen (with some loss likely), would they survive or would you need to provide additional healing?

I was looking at @Trusk'our our Hemalurgy enthusiast's Q&A post Do Highly Invested Spiritwebs Naturally Develop Powers? and wondered what would happen if you stabbed someone with a Raysium spike intending Hemalurgy and started pumping Stormlight into their soul. Could they survive it? Probably not, but I'm trying to find Hemalurgic approaches that we haven't seen yet for Lost Metal.

I would imagine that if you were to stab someone with the intent of Hemalurgy and then you just left the spike there that it would function as Hemalurgic spike normally would, granting them the attribute or power stolen, but at a slightly lesser degree. Also, they would most likely just end up dead, but their body would help keep the spike's Hemalurgic charge from decaying.

If they do survive because the bodily warping of the spike is keeping them from dying, then I would imagine they would be much easier to control via emotional Allomancy than normal since they have a large hole in their Spiritweb from the spike and from having a piece of it ripped off.

The Bind point you rip it from and the one you implant it are not always the same, and in those cases the Spiritweb has been moved to the physical metal Spike when it gained a charge, so I think it would start acting like a spike placed in that (possibly incorrect) Bind Point.  The experimentation part of Hemalurgy is that Intent is needed to cross into the Spiritual, but you can get the bind point wrong and get new/unforeseen effects.

If the removal Bind point and the implantation Bind Point happen to be the same for the effect you want (ie the same Heart BP for Both), then it might just settle back in place and do what it "naturally" did, only the spirutal circuit now routes through a spike in the Physcial Realm.  You'd still be more vulnerable Shards or Rioters and all that by virtue of Being Spiked, and you'd probably die as soon as it comes out.

So... could this let someone effectively sign up to be a power donor like an organ donor? Their abilities get weaker, but once they die their ability remains preserved in the spike until the body can be recovered? If this actually works, painful it might be, this seems like an unusually ethical approach to Hemalurgy if done voluntarily (maybe while using a F-Tin/F-Gold medallion for healing and anasthetic). It's different from Spook's idea of getting volunteers from the terminally ill at least.

Presumably they would die as the spike has, well, destroyed their heart while also stealing a chunk of their spirit web... BUT the spike would retain a much greater portion of its hemalurgical charge than otherwise as it's effectively stored in blood... at least until the victim rots anyhow.
