Just now, Thaidakar the Ghostblood said:

Thaidakar squirmed slightly, "nor are you..."

"No, I'm not going to kill him while your back is turned. I'll make sure he's properly treated, same as I would any other patient. If you have a problem with that, I can lock you up in the basement."

"I see... Perhaps I judged you too harshly."

"You're still banned from the library, by the way. Three days left till you're allowed back in."

"Hmm... Lark, I think we can come to an arrangement..."

"What kind of an arrangement? You get this," Lark held up the clinic treaty "and I get a dagger in the chest?"

He chuckled, "if only... but no, my arrangement is far more reasonable."

"I'm listening."

"I do not think you are a villain anymore. I would like to arrange a deal where I'm back as staff, but you make Emma your superior. She gets to rule the clinic, in title only. Meanwhile, you are the real leader and run the show. I would like to help you and keep your propositions a little more gentle as to stop rebellions and burning of the library. Of course, we will need to rescue Emma before we put this into action."

Bookwyrm sighed and dismissed his weapon.

"Fine. I'll see where this goes, Lark. You two can work this out. Come on, @Ranryu, let's finish the probe." He started pulling the floating stretcher towards the infirmary.

"You still doing okay, @CalanoCorvus?" Bookwyrm asked.

Lark was shaking his head before Thaidakar was finished. "No. Emma would never stand for such a plan. I suspect that even once she discovers that Calano is alive, she will still hate me for the damage that his death and revival have done. And with her powers, she stands a chance against me, even with the treaty. Even if I prove victorious in the subsequent battle, I know of no one who can contain her besides the Chickens. The basement could have done it once, but no longer. So to rescue her would mean either my death or hers. Your deal will not work."

"I can convince her if you say you'll not let any chickens into the clinic ever again. I will also gather a few of Emma's friends to come help up convince her. Perhaps, if you were there while we rescue her just in the nick of time, she'll forgive you. it's worth a try."

"She will not forgive me. And do you really think I'd be foolish enough to leave the clinic? I'd be practically powerless outside of this dimension."

A look flashed on his face, "but the chickens are not outside of this dimension. You all have been fools, even Calano. I was as well. The chickens have always been here..."

Lark waved a hand dismissively. "Of course they're outside of this dimension! I would be able to feel their presence if they were here."

"You would if chickens were included in the treaty. which they aren't."

"What do you mean? You don't have to be included on the treaty in order to be under my power. Everything in this dimension is controlled by me. It's not as if there's some sort of exception for the chickens... is there?" Lark unrolled the treaty, scanning down the lines again. "No, I don't see one."

"Not in that treaty... but Calano accidentally signed contract where it made an exception for chickens."

"Really? That... does sound like something that the idiot would do." Lark narrowed his eyes suspiciously. "How did you find out about this?"

"I was looking through the old files that I copied onto a hard drive from my staff days. I keep it with me always."

"What? You have a copy of the files? Storms, how did Calano keep the place from falling apart?" Lark set the treaty down on the table, holding out his hand to Thaidakar. "Hand it over."

"Fine." he handed over the hard drive and grabbed the treaty.

Anger flashed in Lark's eyes. "You don't know what you're doing, Thaidakar. you think holding that treaty gives you power? You're wrong."

"No... not like this. but it does give me this power..." he drew the amber gem from his pocket and drew out the power. He smiled as the treaty started tearing to pieces in his fingers.
