Chag Sameach! You know what, I'll edit the topic now. Plus, I made some cheese cakes with my sister's help, and she insists I'd post pictures.

Edit: here's my prototype cake:IMG_20220602_233418_288.thumb.jpg.4c2bbb1dd03a646d7dd69b0f2d8f370e.jpg

And here's the cake I made after a lesson in Culinary Engineering from @Michborn:IMG_20220602_233432_874.thumb.jpg.5398b41275ab06894e2b49aaf8804c87.jpg

As you can clearly see, the lesson paid off!

Though she didn't give me a lesson in taking pictures.

Shanah Tovah, שנה טובה!

Are you ready for Rosh HaShanah and Yamim Noraim? Because I'm not certain I am.

(Yes, this is a poor try to revive this thread. Help me out, please.)

I wasn't either, but I managed to survive day one!

My school district finally gave us a day off for Rosh Hashanah, but didn't explain why, so all of my teachers assigned extra homework.

So. It's nearly that time of year again, and you know what that means...

Candles, draidels, Sufganiot and latkes. To be quite honest, the main thing I currently have to say is more about how Chanuka is sometimes viewed as the Jewish Christmas and how it irritates me, though I'm pretty sure there was some influence from Christmas on some things (my Grandma hands over gifts to all the grandchildren at the familial Chanuka party).

On another note, anyone has time for Chess on Nittel Nacht?

A Freilechen Purim, to anyone who may read this! I'd guess that some gentiles tend to share their costume around Hallowe'en - do you have anything interesting? (I don't. Not yet, at least.)
Most of you probably celebrate during Purim D'prazin. I'm actually doing two days - I live in Jerusalem, but my Yeshivah is outside of it.

Anyway, if I'll have a costume to share at some point I might send a picture here! Hope you all enjoy the holiday - and are ready to tackle cleaning for Pesach, it's right around the corner!

In my (reconstructionist) community, often people re-use their Halloween costumes. My costume melted, so I'm just going as Gandalf.

I'm reading an abridged version of chapter two of the Megillah tonight!

Huh. Just found it again.

Well, it's not like this really worked, not nearly as well as I've hoped. But hey, no need to measure it that way!

Anyway, hope it finds you in good health etc, if you have any idea for a Jewish discussion that doesn't have to do with the holidays do tell.

Have a good day!

Well, it's that time of year again! Pesach cleaning is going fine here, it's mostly just me going over cupboards with bleach. How are things for you?

My wife is a gem. Despite work keeping me working 9 hours a day the cleaning is getting done.

I know it's a bit late, and the Law of Degrading Activity consumes all etc, but to some of us it's still Purim, so happy Purim! To the rest, hope you'll manage to finish the Chametz before Pesach.

Ooo

I have found the Jewish thread

Shalom aleichem, ya'll!

and Gut Mo'ed!

‘Aleichem shalom!

Apologies for this thread not being active, I have been slowly drifting away from the Shard. Anyway, yeah, Gut Mo‘ed!

What do you think of Jews that become MESSIANIC.? I personally find that they have an interesting understanding as to what the various holy days represent, and their counterpart among gentile Christian believers...

Messianics are, in the end, Christians. If they believe that Jesus is G-d in some way, that contradicts core tennants of Judaism.

Besides that, I heard a couple of things about the origins of Messianic Judaism that didn't sound too good to me. In addition to the fact that most of what I've seen of Messianics was making videos mocking Rabbinic Judaism and trying to convince people to convert... Well, in the end, it doesn't matter. They're Christians (or Christian converts), and can practice that in peace.

Well, if the MESSIAH were to show up at your Passover Seder upon the finding of the hidden matzah.  Wouldn't that change your position as a Jew into something other, if you were to accept HIS arrival.  Would you offer HIM the empty chair?  I hope you do not think that I'm making light of anything.  I do respect your beliefs, I simply want to know if they are more "traditional" or "practical" in nature.  I mean from a "Christian" perspective, it seems many of the Sanhedrin (not all) wanted JESUS killed because HE was apparently upsetting their supposed "apple-cart".

There are honestly a lot of things I could say to that. But the first of them is this: Christians believe Jesus to be G-d/the son of G-d. That belief has nothing to do with him being the Messiah or not, and it's just not compatible with Judaism. What I'd do in case the Messiah arrives is a whole lot different from what you, as (I assume) a Christian, would assume. It also doesn't really matter for your original question and my reply to it.

If we were discussing Christianity, I'd have had a couple of questions back to you. However, this isn't the place for that. I could, I suppose, go to general religious discussion and follow on there.
