Trusk'our he/him Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 If an Allomancer is stronger, they not only can burn their metals faster in order to get more Investiture, they are also more efficient. Quote Oversleep (paraphrased) Allomantic strength. There are stronger Allomancers, they can burn metals faster, right? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) Yes, they can also squeeze more power out of it. They can use it more efficiently. Oversleep (paraphrased) So there is some loss of power along the way? How do savants work into that? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) Savants can use it way more efficiently. They are more Connected to the Shard. Closer to Spiritual Realm. Would the same principle apply to Feruchemists? So, say there was a Feruchemist who had one or more Hemalurgic spikes that granted them the same Feruchemical power, making them into a stronger Feruchemist. If the same rules apply for Feruchemical strength as Allomantic (which I suppose they may not), then they should be able to squeeze more of an attribute out of their stored Investiture. Even if they were already at peak efficiency, which considering how Feruchemy works is entirely possible, if they used Hemalurgy to enhance their own Feruchemical power they should still be able to get more Investiture out of their stored attributes. Since their spiritweb is now larger and more Invested due to having Hemalurgic spikes added, there is more Investiture to divert from themselves into their Metalminds, thus allowing them (assuming my theory is correct) to actually get more of an attribute than they normally sacrifice. In other words, 10% of a Hemalurgically enhanced Feruchemical attribute would contain more Investiture, and therefore more actual ability, than a non-Hemalurgically enhanced Feruchemical attribute. I suppose that this may not actually work, however, and it may just be that you can store more of your attributes at once, which would not be very powerful compared to what else you could add onto yourself via Hemalurgy.
therunner he/him Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 Feruchemy is 'end-neutral' (outside of small amount of external investiture needed to facilitate transfer, https://wob.coppermind.net/events/2/#e171), so what you put in is what you get out. You cannot really squeeze out more out of it, as it is already operating with effectively 100% efficiency. I don't think Hemalurgy could really help at all with this, you don't magically become heavier because you have Hamalurgical spike with F-Iron, and Feruchemy stores what attribute you possess, so there is no 'more Investiture' to squeeze out of metalminds. Now, we know there is a loss when tapping faster than when attribute was stored (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/243/#e6126) so maybe Feruchemical strength could help there? Where the loss incured due to compressing the attribute would be smaller?
