Question

Since hemalurgic spikes don’t usually grant resonances, would they also not interfere with any resonances that you could develop naturally? For example, could Marsh gain a resonance if he somehow got another power without the use of hemalurgy, without needing to worry about his many spikes interfering?

Questioner

As far as Hemalurgy, when you give that-- when it's done to somebody, would that create a new resonance?

Brandon Sanderson

It's possible that it could. Though I'm gonna say, most of the time, no... Lots of things are possible, but I'll give you a "mostly no" on that one.

Questioner

What about savantism? Is that possible with Hemalurgy?

Brandon Sanderson

Yes, it is.

So, it is possible for a Resonance to form between Hemalurgically stolen powers but unlikely for some reason

I think there is some confusion in the question too here. A resonance is a sort of interaction between multiple powers, so there are sort of a few separate questions here:
1. can you use hemalurgy to steal  resonance - I think we have a solid "No" or "Mostly no" on that
2. If you use hemalurgy to steal multiple powers can a resonance form between those - I would have assumed that would be a yes, and i'd still land there, but admittedly the WoB above makes it less likely
3. Ca a resonance form between the hemalurgic charge itself (irrespective of what that charge is) and another power. this is what I assume Brandon is saying no to in the WoB, but I could be misreading it.

Abilities you gain from hemalurgy would let you form resonances, they just don't let you steal resonances.

The Coppermind wiki says that you usually won't get resonances from hemalurgy.

Usually not, but not impossible

Okay, but assuming that you don't get a resonance through standard hemalurgic means, then since you're not adding anything to your resonance, then wouldn't that mean that you wouldn't alter any resonances you already had?

Maybe? We don't know
