  1. Oh, I completely agree that Fassbender would make a fantastic Kelsier! Wow, he's actually a perfect choice (for Marsh too, really).
  2. Thanks for that quote! I knew Kelsier wasn't young (I do recall Vin always going on about how old he was, and how that meant she wasn't attracted to him in the least xD ). So therefore I stand by my conviction that Jensen Ackles would be pretty great as Kelsier. Right age, right looks, right attitude (imo).
  3. Are you certain that Kelsier was 25 when he died? That doesn't seem right. =/ I always thought Kelsier was at least 35. ooh, I'd love to see Dany Pudi in this, even if he might not be the right age for Sazed.
  4. Amanda Downum's Necromancer Chronicles (The Drowning City, The Bone Palace, Kingdoms of Dust) are stunning. They are a fresh perspective on high fantasy, featuring plenty of female characters, plenty of people of color, fluid gender relations and gender neutrality, and a main trans character in the second book. These elements never overtake the plot, however; they are represented as an ordinary part of Downum's world, which is really what makes this series unique. Also, the settings aren't your played out Anglo-French settings. In the first book, the setting is based on Southeast Asia, which makes for an incredibly diverse and rich setting. Each book can be a stand-alone, but they all center on Isyllt Iskaldur, necromancer and investigator. When reading these books I feel like I'm reading truly original high fantasy.
  5. Though I grew up with Chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter, I don't really count those as high fantasy. The first real high fantasy I ever read was Maggie Furey's Aurian, which I loved. I remember thinking it felt like very traditional fantasy, with your basic Anglo-French setting, dragons, a big bad, and elemental magic.
  6. Actually, I think that if the Mistborn film were actually made in a few years, Jensen would be a very good Kelsier, especially as he gets older. I think his physicality in particular translates well to Kelsier's abilities as a Mistborn. And his debonair suave, devil-may-care attitude fits Kelsier really, really well.
  7. I think Jennifer Lawrence is too prolific and too curvy for Vin, who I think is described as tiny and boyish. Benedict Cumberbatch for TLR is perfect. And I like Alan Rickman for Sazed! What about Michael Raymond-James for Kelsier?
  8. Hello there! I'm Addie, totally new to the forums - I just signed up about an hour ago, actually. I'm completely new to Brandon Sanderson as well. I'm currently still reading the final book in the Mistborn trilogy, and I've read none of his other works, but I've certainly read enough to know what he is going to become one of my favorite authors. I'm trying not to explore the forums too much just yet, because I'm weary of spoilers, but hopefully I'll finish Hero of Ages very soon and will return to explore in earnest. A little about me: I'm a college junior majoring in history and minoring in English. I'm a writer of fantasy myself (though I haven't actually finished anything yet!). I have a cat named Tabby. My favorite Mistborn characters are Breeze (I cannot put into words how much I adore this man), Allriane, and Kelsier. I'm really excited to find this forum! I was just lamenting the fact that I would have no one to talk to about Mistborn once I finish the trilogy. -Addie
  9. For some reason I went through the book picturing Rob Lowe as Kelsier, but dear Lord, please let nobody actually make that happen. I think there are a lot of people I would be happy to see play Kelsier, among them Tom Hiddleston, Michael Fassbender, and John Barrowman. I think they all have that element that is really needed in Kelsier - the ability to bounce between disturbingly dark and light-hearted in seconds. As for Vin, I always pictured her as Alexandra Chando. I know she's meant to be pale and would probably look nothing like Alexandra, but ever since I watched The Bleeding House I can't help but feel she'd be perfect for the role. For Breeze I will not accept anyone but H. Jon Benjamin. For Allriane, I pictured Viva Bianca, who would bring just the right amount of vivacity and mischeviousness to the role, I think. For Ham I think Tom Hopper, but he's probably too young. I've got nothing for the rest of the characters, haha.
