Next time you are in a car
Next time you are in a car
Look out the window
Look at the people walking by
Try, just try to imagine
What kind of life they’ve lived to get there
You’ll be wrong, but you’ll understand it
Everyone here is a human.
It’s hard to understand,
But so important
Because there are 8 billion of you
Count your 9 closest friends
Think of the life’s they have lived.
How many people do you know?
Because the ten of you, there are 800 million
Different unique people too
Imagine 100 different people
Do you even know that many?
Each of them has lived a life
But the hundred of you, there are 80 million
Can you even imagine that number?
80 million seconds
Is almost 2 full years
2 full years worth of people
That’s how many hundreds there are
800 million seconds
Is just about 25 years
25 years worth of people
That’s how many 10 close friends there are
8 billion seconds
Is practically 253 years
253 years worth of people
That’s how many there are of you
How long have you even lived?
I bet you haven’t lived to be 250.
Most of you aren’t even 25
So imagine all of yourself
Every second you remember is but a fraction
Of the total seconds you have lived
The total amount of time that has shaped you
Is almost definitely less than 25 years
So now imagine every second you’ve lived
Multiply that by your ten friends
All of you times yourself isn’t even all of it
All of you times 10 friends doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface
Think about how there are 8 billion of you
So, next time you are in the car
Look out the window, at the people passing by.
Even if you can begin to imagine just one of them
You are one second closer to imagining 200 years
