  1. Having a shard with the Intent Autonomy practically spells doom for theories about reuniting all the shards back into Adonalsium, I imagine he would be the one individual unwilling to be part of a team or work together with anyone.
  2. Something i just thought of while reading the above post is that if the radiants were planning to betray the spren, wouldnt the spren have known? Doesnt Syl read Kaladin's mind after they get the next oath and she can become a shard-whatever he needs at the moment? It seems like spren would try to unbond their KR? It seems like the spren has to voluntarily choose their KR, (though wyndle doesn't seem to like Lift very much as a KR). IMO the spren would have to be complicit in the act in the recreance, because they couldve had the power to start trying to undo their bonds if the KR had done the planning necessary for nine orders to simulatneously give up their shards.
  3. I'm in favor of the bond-farming theory, especially since someone has brought up the quote about Syl having helped kill men before. (Entering speculatve theory) We know Syl has been following Kaladin for awhile, seeing someone honorable who protected people... but she can't begin the Nahel bond because he isn't broken. It would've been easy for her to just stick Tien's shoe to the ground in a battle, causing him to trip and be killed, and she knew this would be part of the breaking for Kaladin. But it wasn't enough, she couldn't fully initiate the bond, but she could still cause him enough disgust at the shardblade that he couldn't accept it, eventually causing his enslavement and further broken-ness. It is possible she wasn't aware enough at the time to understand the wrong of her actions... but I can see why this would cause the Recreance in other radiants, because if almost every single radiant had someone super close to them killed by a spren's meddling, it really wouldn't be conducive for a trust relationship.
  4. Isn't there something in the series that they created life and a world together, so that after a certain period of time Ati could destroy it, as goes his intent? Its possible they found and made their own rock with life that they knew would eventually be destroyed because that would be better than finding a world with life or adonalsiums design and then destroying it, because Ati was once a good man.
  5. I like the theory that the Heralds are actually spren that possess people, but I think it would make more sense if the Heralds actually were their honorblades, but when the honorblade is bound to a person, the sentience from the blade is transferred to the person, and either its not a perfect transfer or the spren in blade form is "dormant" and doesn't remember being a sword. It would make more sense here with the WOB that shardblades were made as imitations of honorblades, also why honorblade users dont channel stormlight as efficiently as a KR, similiar to how Pattern used up the stormlight faster than Shallan would have. We haven't seen any "unbound" shardblade because taln's just recently acquired a new person, and the rest of the Heralds are still alive, if not in posession of their blades, so their isn't much evidence, but i feel this fits in much better than having the blade and "Heraldspren" be different things.
  6. I initially didn't like Renarin all that much, and he really irritated me because of his inability to fight, and his repetitive attempts to do so (chasmfiend fight in wok, and the duel (more like brawl) in WoR). BUT, because of feather writers compelling and persuasive defense of Renarin, I have been thoroughly convinced that Renarin is more interesting than initially though. My best hope is that his epilepsy will be healed similar to his poor eyesight being healed at the end or WoR, but I can also see him keeping this condition similar to Kaladin's slave scars. However, I don't blame Shallan's reaction to Renarin's breakdown at the end of WoR. I know I would've been crueler to him in the same situation, and can't blame her for something I would've done myself. In the initial spirit of the thread before Renarin derailed it, I really feel Moash's betrayal was huge. Bridge Four was a team, a solid unit, and as a basketball player, I know what that brotherhood in a team feels like. When he breaks himself off, I felt it was a knife in the back, and destruction of the trust Kaladin has built in his team. This could have some big ramifications for Bridge Four; Moash is turned traitor, Kaladin ran off to his old home, and their numbers were decimated by the szeth fight.
  7. I love it when Wit is just casually handing out insults at the party while sitting on his stool, especially the one about (paraphrased) "Lord *somebody*, proving the limits of human stupidity? How very empirical of you!" I really enjoyed all of the veiled compliments that were actually insults.
  8. @Patrick Star There's alot that Gavilar could do with the sphere if Venli had given it to him Suppose she already has several of the spheres containing voidspren made, but knows her people will flat out reject them because they will recognized them as being from the old gods. Then she meets Gavilar, who wants (for some storm forsaken reason) to bring back the desolations, and knows that if he had one of the voidspren and showed it to the Parshendi, they would instantly recognize it and possibly make some rash action, leading to the war. With a war on, she could plausibly convince the leaders to accept her ideas out of desperation. Boom, she brings back the everstorm. Its alot of speculation, but its the best reason i can think of venli wanting gavilar to have the sphere. Its like giving the middle east nukes just to make sure some other countries go to war to stop them from using them. Personally, i think the sphere has to be something other than a trapped spren or odious investiture, because from fabrials we know that gems with trapped spren still need to be infused and don't glow even if a spren is still trapped, and odious investiture would leak out similiar to stormlight.
  9. It seems likely to me that Prof being able to steal powers from Epics could explain the origins of the Reckoners. Evil Epic Phaedrus sets out to get more powers from epics and kills a few, stealing their powers. Then he decides to go under cover to infiltrate another epic (baseless speculation), and in the process avoids using his powers for long enough to realize what he has done, but decides to continue hunting epics as a sort of redemption, and gifts his powers to other members to avoid the corruption.
  10. I keep visualizing every shard blade as a halo energy sword, with the sound and everything when it is summoned. I also picture Dalinar ALOT younger than he should be, like early thirties rather than almost fifty. And it is really difficult to visualize the Alethi hair as black, with it being mixed with other colors when they have an impure bloodline. Whenever I try to think of the mixed hair I end up seeing Adolin's hair as spotted black like a dalmation.
  11. Thanks for all the thoughts, I realized it was a vague hope to think I'd found all the holes. Furthermore, everything that was brought up here seems to be more accurate than most of my theories, but like most theories, I was just hoping to start a discussion rather than find an accurate answer. Though from all the contrary evidence it seems I am farther from the truth than I would like.
  12. Spoilers for WOR and WOK below It seems to me that as of WoR, we have little knowledge of the nightwatcher. Many people know of it (her?), but it is surrounded by mystery. The nightwatcher is referred to as evil in a way that I see as similiar to how voidbringers are, but shouldn't something of Cultivation be beneficial, not evil? My theory is that the nightwatcher is a fusion of odium and cultivation, perhaps a splinter of cultivation that was "hijacked" by odium. This could explain why there is a boon and a curse, and why they are balanced in severity, as odium and cultivation are balanced for control in the Nightwatcher, and one can only use power while allowing the other to use the same amount, Evidences: (sorry there's no page numbers, they're from my kindle) The Nightwatcher is Evil: Around the campfire in WoK in Chapter 27 Chasm Duty, Skar says he would "join the Nightwatcher herself around a fire if there was stew involved" Kaladin in the WoK Chapter 14 Payday say to Syl, "Bringing death and lies wherever I go. Me and the Nightwatcher." In WoK Chapter 65 The Tower, Dalinar is wondering if he should trust the visions, "They could be from the Nightwatcher or the Voidbringers." These all go to show that the Nightwatcher is seen as evil, or at least her curses are. The Nightwatcher is part of Cultivation: Wyndle seems to mention that "mother" has influenced lift in WoR. In the Chapter Lift he says, "She has visited the Old Magic,'... 'Our mother has blessed her," Now this is alot of assumption, but because of Growth, I'm assuming that Wyndle is a little piece of Cultivation, and "Mother" would be referring to Cultivation. It seems strange that the old magic and cultivation are mentioned separate, but the blessing is from the old magic and "mother." This supports the idea that boons are from Cultivation. Now, in a more speculative sense, could the Nightwatcher be one of the Unmade? Another topic, but slightly relevant. This theory came to me recently as I read Rothfuss's Wise Man's Fear and came to the part about the Cthaeh, something that saw the future perfectly, and was perfectly evil. This strikes me as something like the Nightwatcher, as in one of Dalinar's visions, Tanavast mentions something like Cultivation is better at seeing the future than he is. Part of this is an attempt to figure out why Mr. T is so evil, as there is currently a theory named "Taravangian's real way of saving mankind" by Raysen_ht, and it revolves around the fact that Mr. T's brilliance is actually his curse. So now I've got the groundwork laid. In conclusion, I think the Nightwatcher is an Unmade that is equal parts Odium and Cultivation, with the odious parts granting curses matching severity to the boons Cultivation gives. Holes in Theory: Lack of Knowledge about the Nightwatcher in general The source of the Nightwatcher's evil reputation could just be people bitter about their curses Cultivation is a force that isn't inherently evil or good, so may not be balanced by odium The Cthaeh already exists, and Brandon is an original writer, I feel he wouldn't reuse an idea. Mr. T really could be doing the best thing for the world in the Diagram, taking a "survival" approach rather than fighting approach. This is my first published theory, so sorry about its disorganization.
  13. It should be noticed that there is a difference between sociopath and psychopath. Psychopaths are devoid of emotions, while sociopaths just lack one or more emotions, but not all of them. So if Kelsier was a sociopath, he still has some emotions that can be soothed/rioted. Edit: Sorry for the inaccurate data, this was just how I currently understood it. To correct my mistake, definitions as defined by Oxford dictionaries Sociopath- a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behavior and a lack of conscience. Psychopath- a person suffering from chronic mental disorder with abnormal or violent social behavior.
  14. When you read this entire topic in one afternoon. Watching your high school age classmates jaws drop when you bring in WOK hardcover for bookclub. When arguments with your brother turn into "Who knows more about the cosmere." Wondering just how much speed you could tap in a race without others noticing it. When you see a gibberish written down and wonder if its the Diagram. When i wonder just how much mental speed i could store and still pass math class. When you care more about impressions on seventeenth shard than with people in person.
  15. Soulstamp myself to be dead (if this is even possible) from a non-disfiguring cause like a heart attack, and it wont have to last very long, just long enough for the guards to notice and carry me out to be buried. And then just run like crazy into the woods after the soulstamp wears off while the guards are struggling with the fact that i arose from the dead.
