Warbreaker was specifically written to explore Vasher's history, as he originated in the writing of Stormlight as has already been said. 

The origin of humans being from another world cemented the idea that other planets exist, and Azure already hinted that Zahel is from elsewhere. 

Szeth and Nightblood could interact with Vasher as has been proposed, his real name could come out, and he  could own up to being "foreign" and explain that he, his wife, and a group of scholarly friends came to Roshar and decided to try and make a Shardblade themselves and there were... Complications... And absolutely none of Warbreaker needs to be explained. 

SA is meant to be standalone. The fact that Warbreaker was released first complicates that in people's minds, but that was literally a prequel book. It does not need to be read to understand SA. Even with Nightblood.
