stcapps17 Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 I am finishing a reread of WoK, and I noticed a detail in Dalinar's Last Vision. After the destruction of Kholinar, Dalinar looks up and sees two "stars" blink out before the sun dims. Is this a hint at the destruction of two other planets within the Cosmere? If this is the case, either Odium can destroy three separate planets almost instantly or that there are other powers capable of massive destruction working with him. If the latter were the case, who would have the most to gain from the action? 1
The One Who Connects he/him Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 This is a different interpretation of the stars blinking out, but good catch nonetheless. If it symbolizes specific planets, then it's likely Ashyn and Braize, the other two planets in the Rosharan System. 2
Calderis he/him Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 I always took this one figuratively. The Almighty states that this is a possible future. Rather than a literal instant death of those stars, I took it to mean that if Odium succeeds he will move on to continue his destruction elsewhere. 3
Ardjet Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 I have a strong feeling it's symbolic for the Shards. The two winking out together could be Devotion and Dominion. I don't suppose there's a specific number of stars he sees? 2
Turtle373 he/him Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 it could be Honor and Cultivation being splintered, a fear that Odium would be allowed to destroy Roshar with little resistance 1
Weltall Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 My take on it is that Honor is worried (well, actually pretty certain) that if Odium is freed he'll continue on his Cosmere murder trip until he's the only Shard left and the stars going out is symbolic of that. There may be some more specific symbolism involved with the stars but I'm not convinced of it. We know from WoB that Odium made a hit list and if freed he'd probably spend a bit of time revising things based on developments in the millenia he's been stuck on Roshar, then continue killing his way down the list. Now, consider what's happening on Scadrial between the time of Stormlight 5 and 6 and how Harmony would certainly be at the top of that revised hit list... 1
Darkness he/him Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 I always assumed it was dominion and devotion.
