Well, the creature that Rysn got is the same thing that sucked the stormlight out of Lift, right? They're both described as looking like a cremling with wings.

Clearly, pretty much everybody here is really into these books, but there's nothing wrong with disliking them. It's okay to not like the same things. I tried to read A Game of Thrones 3 times, each time getting about 100 pages in before losing interest. It's just not for me. I'm happy that other people really enjoy it, but that doesn't mean that I have to.

It's unclear. Parshendi can bond with spren, but obviously the effects are very different from the way humans do it. Maybe Shen could use the Blade, but instead of getting surges, he would have access to a new, powerful form only available via Honorblades.

Copying my topic from this thread: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/6668-who-is-going-to-get-an-honorblade-full-book-spoilers/#entry108729 "So, at the end of the book, team Dalinar/Kaladin has Szeth's honorblade. Who do you think is going to end up with it? No obvious answers spring to mind. Bridge 4 seems like they're already going to get Windrunner powers through their connection with Kaladin. Adolin, not being bonded to a spren seems like an okay candidate, but the Honorblade wouldn't work while he's in plate, and that's one of his main assets - being a Plate and Blade duelist. Dalinar, Shallan, Renarin and Kaladin are all Radiants with their own spren/blades. Wouldn't stop them I guess. Kaladin could bond with it just to keep it safe, but it seems like a wasted resource. Who's left? Navani? Shen (I forget his new name)? Man, Shen with an honorblade might be a force." It was later pointed out to me that Dalinar actually doesn't have a blade and is a pretty good candidate.

Your "I Knew It" Moments for Words of Radiance?

When Kaladin got a Shardspear instead of a Shardblade. -
It's clear that Dalinar doesn't have an Taln's Honorblade. Aside from the fact that an Honorblade wouldn't scream the way Dalinar's did, the descriptions of their appearances are completely different (long and narrow for Taln's, cleaver-like for the Blade Dalinar bonded with and dropped later). General consensus is that Hoid took the Honorblade and swapped it for a "regular" Shardblade.

It does seem likely, but he'll probably do whatever Syl tells him to do with it. Maybe he'll bond with it and just leave it discorporeal to keep it out of anybody's hands.
-
Sure, but that was a common criminal, not a Radiant-in-training. Also, that is the transformation that took so much stormlight that Jasnah's sphere's cracked. The way she soulcast Shallan's blood was a very different procedure.
-
The only problem I see with this is that, so far, we've only seen spren take the form of rigid objects. Something flexible, like a bow, might be beyond them. I guess you could make a spear thrower. Also, would a Shardarrow be that lethal? You'd need a head/spine shot for it to be really effective. It would't be able to sever a limb the way a blade does. If it just passed through, say your shoulder, it would do damage, sure, but a real arrow would probably be just as bad, maybe worse, given the bleeding. I guess, given that they don't weigh much, you could shape it so that it has a ridiculous-sized head, increasing the chances.
-
If a knight had two bonded spren, I imagine he'd typically keep one as a sword and the other as a shield, but since they can transform almost instantly, he'd switch them up, two swords, two shields, sword in left hand, shield in right, depending on the situation.
-
Not sure it tells us anything about Kaladin we didn't already know, but maybe that Syl is kind of a show-off.
-
I think he's asking what happened to the shardblade that Dalinar dropped when he bonded with the StormFather. Answer: Same thing that happened to all of the Shards that Adolin won.
-
Oh, also, if Szeth couldn't lash someone in Shardplate, it's likely that it would stop Soulcasting, as well.
-
Shallan clearly wanted Jasnah to use the soulcaster to save her. We have no idea if it would work on somebody who was opposed to the soulcasting. Jasnah said that there was something special about soulcasting blood - aside from the fact that creating blood is easier than other complex organic materials, there may be other limitations as well. Jasnah was likely able to touch Shallan to soulcast her blood - not at range like we saw against the muggers. We've already discussed the enormous Stormlight cost that involved. But the main reason Jasnah isn't going to be able to walk onto a battlefield and murder anybody she lays her eyes on instantly is that it would be a terrible narrative.

Living up to your principles always takes strength. He may have different principles than you or me, but it doesn't change the fact that he's sacrificed a lot to uphold them.

I think it's safe to assume that a 90% casualty rate is typical of a Desolation, not an extraordinary one. The Heralds showed up prior to the Desolation, assisted humanity, fought the forces of evil and, at the end, returned to whence they came, just like they always do. I don't see a part where he talks about the Heralds as if they weren't there during the Desolation.
-
The main thing Adolin brings to the table is that he is a master duelist/fighter in full Plate with a Blade. The Honorblade won't work in conjunction with Plate, so I don't think he's a good fit.
-
He might not be Vasher, but at the very least, many signs point towards him being from Nalthis. Maybe it's Yesteel.
-
Nohadon mentions the return of the Heralds in the context that they will return for the next Desolation. After each Desolation, the technology base is devastated. Each time, humanity has to recover. Sometimes it recovers better than others. Nohadon definitely lived after a Desolation. That's how we saw the aftermath, in his conversation with Dalinar. Daniel is likely right that it wasn't the last one.

And see, I figured he came to Roshar specifically because they have all of this investiture just blowing around in the wind and he could feed off of that instead of Breath. We know that he's still got a fair amount of breath. He's got enough life sense to wake him out of a sleep when someone approached his house.

WoR Updated Ars Arcanum(lots of spoilers)

If we all, more or less agree that those two statements are part of the second ideal, wouldn't it make more sense to just edit the Wiki to match that instead of editing your table to match the Wiki? -
Well, that begs the question - could you be "evil" and be a Radiant at the same time? We know that Alakavish built up a following and initiated a war (of aggression, from the sound of it). While Radiants are clearly bound to certain ideals, being "good," doesn't seem to be one of them.

So how many secret societies do we have at this point?
PudgyNinja replied to synobal's topic in Stormlight Archive
This is one of my favorite things about Sanderson's writing. His antagonists are almost always trying to save the world, or at least their corner of it. Possible exception to godlike forces of nature like Ruin and Odium. -
I'm not sure what the conflict is. Nohadon could have ruled and written that book after any of the Desolations, including the last one that caused the Heralds to break their oaths.
-
Well, it certainly looks like Adolin might spend some time dabbling in the Dark Side. That said, I don't see that killing Sadeas necessarily means that he won't become a Radiant. Shallan murdered her dad and it doesn't seem to have stopped her.
