  1. To be honest, I never liked Shallan in The Way of Kings. I find her annoying and I had to skip her chapter when I first read tWoK. But in the second and third reread, I had to read her chapter, albeit begrudgingly. Even when WoR haven't come out yet, I already suspected that Shallan will be paired up with either Adolin or Kaladin. At first, I wanted Shallan to be paired with Adolin coz I find them both annoying...ahaha...However, when I read WoR, especially the interaction between Shallan and Kaladin. I changed my mind. I no longer find Shallan annoying, mainly because of her argument with Kaladin which I think is funny....ahaha.. Although, I still have to skim through Shallan's chapter in WoR during my first read.
  2. "I'm not a fan of the traditional love triangle." -When BS said this, I don't think he means that he's not going to write about it. Actually, when he said "However" after those words I felt like he was saying something like this. "I'm not a fan of the traditional love triangle, but if it add conflicts to the present relationship. I won't mind doing a traditional love triangle." I don't know... When he said "However". It sounded like that to me... He may not be fond of the traditional love triangle. It doesn't necessarily mean that BS would not write about it. As long as he gets to add lots of conflicts in the the characters relationship. Well, thats what I think when I read his answer. I will disregard the idea of the untraditional love triangle.
  3. I thought so too. When I read about BS comparing himself to Shallan and Kaladin to BS' wife, I think the possibility of Shallan ending up with Kaladin has increased. Just in my opinion. I think BS is going to do an untraditional love triangle. So he's going to write something about it just for the heck of making the relationship between the main characters more complicated.
  4. I think BS has purposely left out the truth of Helaran's death later to drive a wedge between Kaladin and Shallan. Also the fact about the honospren and critics being hate each other, but it does not immediately imply that both Kaladin and Shallan are going to feel the same. I believe that external and internal conflicts would make a romance in a book more interesting. It will spice things up in the romance department. It will make the relationship stronger once they overcome it. A romance in a book without any conflicts is just... BLAH and BS doesn't do BLAH. It won't make the readers interested and drawn to them to the entire point that all of us could not help but feel frustrated when the two characters are both stubborn and hardheaded to admit that they are meant for each other. I would also like to say that Kaladin might have the strong desire to protect others while Shallan doesn't want to be protected. Like someone pointed out earlier, Kaladin's second ideal is this, "I will protect those who can not protect themselves." I don't think Kaladin and Shallan will have a problem with this because Shallan can clearly protect herself, as shown when both Kaladin and Shallan are in the chasm. Kaladin did not spend his time trying to protect Shallan, in fact Kaladin was the one who lets Shallan lead because she has the map, Kaladin also allowed Shallan to see the chasmfiend even when it was dangerous, Kaladin lets Shallan takes her pack even when he said to go in a different direction and escape, and at last, Kaladin was the one who suggested that Shallan climp up the chasm wall and create the little cubby. Kaladin wouldn't have allowed Shallan to do all these if Kaladin doesn't believe that Shallan is capable to do these things. Kaladin is not over protective like the way Adolin acted towards Shallan when she came back from the chasm. In fact, Kaladin admits that Shallan was the one who were saving them from being stuck in the chasm.
  5. I am tempted to write another really really long thesis again in response to this. However, a lot of you would probably prefer to read a short response than a long one. Actually, I wrote a lot of explanations regarding the relationship between Kaladin, Adolin and Shallan. In exact detail with a lot of quotes put together. But I would rather not repeat that since it is a time-consuming feat. I will start by saying that Kaladin and Shallan mesh so well because they are both contrasting characters. Not exactly opposite to the point that it would drive them apart, but they are opposite in a way that they balance each other out. They are kinda opposite when it comes to personality and in handling things, but when they are put together in the same place, they can create infinite possibilities in solving their problems like when they did in the chasm. They are not really opposite and not really alike but they are an equal sense of balance. They are similar because they have a strong desire to protect everyone they care about in their own way. They have went through a lot of hardship and they are both coping it in their own way. Because of this, they both understand each other immediately. They can see the person for what they truly are. Kaladin hated the light-eyes and he tried to hate Shallan actually, but he could not. After the chasm scene, Kaladin admitted that he was attracted to Shallan and he even smiled when he thought of her during the weeping. Shallan also thought of Kaladin after the chasm. Shallan compared Adolin to Kaladin, and in my opinion, his description of Kaladin was better than Adolin. When Shallan described Adolin most of the time, it was mostly about Adolin's handsome features and some such, while Shallan often describe Kaladin's personality rather than Kaladin's physical attributes. For example in this scene. Shallan describes Kaladin and Adolin, and its in italics! Its more than how she describes Adolin most of the time. Its even more than 2 sentences put together. She even drifted off space when she tried to describe Kaladin and did not even catch what Adolin was saying. Chapter 77 (Trust) Shallan did not thought only once about Kaladin. But she thought about him twice during the entire expedition. Here it is: Chapter 78 (Contradictions) Chapter 77 (Trust) In this scene, Shallan mentions Kaladin first before Adolin. Why would she do that? Why mention Kaladin first before Adolin when Adolin is her betrothed? Shouldn't she mention Adolin first or even mention Kaladin in the same breath as Adolin? Why would Shallan even mention Kaladin unless he is kinda important to her already? Why would she even do it if she still thinks that Kaladin is just a slave and a dark-eyed? Just think about it...Shallan doesn't care about what position you have in the society. She doesn't care about social standing at all. You also mention that Adolin was trying to make Shallan jealous. Yes, Shallan might not get jealous easily but the way Adolin is doing is not good for their relationship. It is immature and Shallan doesn't like that kind of stuff especially when Adolin acts overprotective. Adolin still needs to develop maturely. If Adolin continues to act that way, it will drive Shallan away. The book would be more interesting if the good guy would become a bad guy. BS always has a thing for forbidden love, or something like a love-hate relationship as was ingrained in most of his books. Like in Mistborn, between a Vin(skaa thief) and Elend(rich lord) or between the two characters in Elantris and Warbreaker, and lets not forget Steelheart. A romance would be more interesting and exciting if there are a lot of obstacles that they would have to go through. The romance would be a total BLAH if there are no obstacles that the two characters would have to face. It would just be way too boring, and BS's books are rarely boring. And yes about the chasm, they might be in a near-death situation but I would also like to mention this, if they were in a near-death situation why would Shallan even tell Kaladin about her past? They could have talked about other things but why would they confide in each other about their pasts? Why would Shallan talked about killing her father? Shallan did it because she felt that Kaladin would understand. They probably think that they might die soon, so does that entirely mean that they have to spill each other's hearts out? Does it mean that they wanted someone to know about their past before they die? I don't think so. Shallan asked Kaladin about his past, twice! The first time Shallan asked Kaladin to talk, Kaladin said something like this, "I'll talk about it later." The second time Shallan asked Kaladin, it was because they just wanted to drown out the thundering noises outside. They talked not because they think that they were about to die. They just talked because they want to forgot that they were facing a highstorm. They were both scared. Not dying. If they were about to die, BS would probably write something like this, "Since we are about to die, why don't we just tell each others secrets'' or something like that. Even so, Shallan would have never confided in Kaladin if she did not think that Kaladin was trust-worthy and would understand her. Shallan would have talked about other things and forgot about her past like she always does. But she sees something in Kaladin that made her talked about her past. If Shallan thinks that Kaladin was just a stranger stuck with her during the highstorm and in the chasm, I am certain that Shallan would have never told anything about her past. But after Kaladin told his story, I believe Shallan knew that Kaladin would accept her for what she did and what she had become.
  6. I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you entirely. Yes, Shallan did try her best to act as someone expected of her station, a lighteyed woman. Adolin does not know that Shallan had a hidden agenda most of the time when she was with Adolin. Shallan nearly spend most of her time lying and deceiving Adolin into getting what she wanted like taking her to the platue to investigate Urithiru, another one was so that Shallan could talked to Navani by manipulating Adolin into thinking that it was an innocent and scholarly request on her part. I understand that Shallan just doing it so that she can immediately solve the mysteries of Urithiru and save the world, but lets be honest, Shallan remained tight-lipped even after they came to Urithiru. She did not tell Adolin what truly happened to her as was shown in the quote below. Chapter 87 (The Riddens) So do you think its good for their relationship if Shallan spends most of her time lying and deceiving? Shallan did not confide to Adolin what she was doing. I think she will continue to do so in the next book because she has her duty and she is pretty good at pretending to be someone else she is not. She is good at weaving disguises. I also think that it is good that Adolin is not so observant, and as what Shallan said "mentally direct" to notice anything, especially when it comes to deception and women for that matter. Kaladin would not do anything to steal Shallan from Adolin. Kaladin would probably pretend that he is not attracted to Shallan in the next book. And the bromance between Kaladin and Adolin? I wouldn't call it "serious" yet. Kaladin is still warming up to Adolin. Kaladin finally accepted Adolin's act of friendship when he told Shallan when they were still in chasm, that he was sorry for treating Adolin that way and Adolin was a "good man" or something along those lines. I would not call it serious. The "serious bromance" would probably happened when both Adolin and Kaladin finally treat each other as friends without any bias in Kaladin's part. And lastly, the possibility of Kaladin and Jasnah happening is like 25%. I don't know...I never read anything from most of BS's books of a romance between a younger man and an older woman together. Kaladin is like 20 and Jasnah is like 29 y.o. I've noticed that when BS writes a romance. The characters is mostly is near in age or the guy is kinda old and the woman is younger. Not the other way around. I think BS would stick to his ideal sense of romance? Writers tend to do that, especially BS since I noticed that most of his books are surprisingly alike in so many ways. His ideas from other books seeps into his other books. I don't think Kaladin and Jasnah are going end up together or even have some kind of romance. Most people just like Kaladin and Jasnah to end up together because they just want to. But if BS is going to write about them, then I'm not looking forward to it at all.
  7. The drawing that Shallan did does not imply that Shallan will end up with Adolin just because she wrote something in it with a double underline. It only means that Shallan finds Adolin attractive in a physical sense. If this were in real life, imagine Shallan as the nerd, wity girl while Adolin is the popular jock in school. Shallan is admiring Adolin's physical prowess as well as his physique, and lets not forget about Adolin's handsome features.
  8. Yes, I agree. Adolin was itching to make Sadeas pay for his betrayal almost throughout the entire book. Yes, he stopped feeling the thrill but it still doesnt mean that Odium has stopped influencing hm. Odium has more influence upon those who are hateful. Adolin has been hateful towards Sadeas throughout the entire book. I don't know....suddenly killng Sadeas was extremely out of character of him? I read somewhere that someone ask Brandon Sanderson if Adolin will become a Skybreaker, and Mr. Sanderson said No. But another order of Knight will probably accept him which is said to Dustbringer, an order who focuses on obedience. And it seems Adolin doesn't fit this order at all? Adolin was obedient until he killed Sadeas. He broke his father's codes. I dont think Adolin will become a Knight Radiant.... As for Renarin, well we dont know yet that Renarin have already reached the same level as Shallan and Kaladin. But I think he is nearly there. I also think that Renarin has a spren like a long time ago...his supposed ailment is probably the cause of his ability to see the future. And he had it like a long time ago, which could mean that Renarin has the spren earlier than even Kaladin? So he can probably get his shardblade soon...maybe in the next book? I think the spren is the opposite gender of the Knight Radiant that they bonded with? Kaladin has a female spren. Shallan looks to have a male spren. Jasnah's seems to be male as well. Lift's is also male. Well, except for Danilar who has the Stormfather. But bondsmiths are rare... So Renarin has a female spren as well? But does spren really have gender?
  9. Renarin already has a live spren of his own name Glys. I think Renarin will have to severe his connection with the dead spren before he can use his live spren as a shardblade, severing a connection with the shardblade was easy as shown by Salinor after he lost to Adolin in the duel.
  10. I don't think Moash will be Odium's champion at all. Moash regretted betraying Kaladin in the end. He realized that he was fooled. Adolin on the other hand...well, he seriously lost control of himself. Moash plotted to eliminate Elhokar. He wanted revenge and yes, he is hateful towards Elhokar but he was patient enough to bid his time. Adolin just snapped and totally blank out. He was dazed after he killed Sadeas. He was blinded by his hatred and anger towards Sadeas that he totally forgot himself.
  11. Jasnah has a shardblade. I think she will probably arrive in Urithiru by the next book. Or perhaps Renarin has a blade of his own. I think Shallan will probably leave Urithiru coz she has things to do with the Ghostbloods. Jasnah will arrive in Urithiru and will help things out with the affairs there while Shallan will go search in how to open the oathgates...and she'll probably hitch a ride with Kaladin so that he can drop her somewhere in Kholinar? or perhaps somewhere nearby hahaha...but i think that possibility is pretty far...
  12. Don't worry. Kaladin will surely end up with someone out of his world of awesomeness, which is ME. ahaha
  13. Hmn, Good point. If Shallan/ Kaladin will be an item by the end of the book three, Brandon will probably used Helaran's death to drive the wedge between them in Book four...hmn...
  14. Who ever says that Shallan and Kaladin could be just friends or some kind of sibling relationship...Well, I don't know about that...I find the Chasm scenes look too "COZY" with all the hugging, grabbing, sleeping in each others arms...and staring in each other's eyes stuff...I mean. If Shallan cared about Kaladin's station, she would have never let her touch her...and most of the time, Kaladin calls her "Shallan" and not "Brightness". Shallan doesn't seem to mind or say anything about it. Chapter 71 (Vigil) --- --- Chapter 72 (Selish Reasons) --- Chapter 24 (Striding the Storm) -- --- ---- I mean come on! Why would she even place her head back against his chest? Haven't she noticed that they were like really close together like some kind of lovers?! Or is she really good at ignoring things? She could have just sit beside him and talked. They way they are like clinging to each other makes them look like a pair of octopus! ---- ---- ---- At first, Shallan and Kaladin are both determine to hate each other and now it seems like they are sleeping together like lovers? Well, I understand about the need for body heat. But do they have to be like, having their arms wrapped around one another? After all of this things that happen in the chasm, I would be surprise that Kaladin and Shallan would not develop some kind of attraction with each other. It is already evident that Kaladin was attracted to her...even when he tried hard not too. Chapter 70 (From a Nightmare) I mean why would Kaladin want to frantically dislike her? Unless he already start to like her already? ahaha... And it seems that Shallan looks to be interested as well. Finally, the last bit that I would really like to mention. The foreshadowing. I think most of this have already been mention by others as well. But I would like to expound and include some of my own opinions about what is going to happen. I will mention the four main things that are obvious. Natans stated this recently. Number One: Hellaran's death It is obvious that Brandon omitted the part of mentioning Kaladin killing Shallan's brother, Helaran. It was so obvious that it seemed that it was omitted purposely for later use, just to drive a wedge between the two characters. Shallan didn't seem to make a connection and Kaladin is reluctant to tell her about it. Yes, Shallan will probably found about it later on...and would surely make her hate Kaladin. And when people starts hating, they will be open to Odium's influence and would probably drive the person to do some terrible things. I think Kaladin was also influence by Odium due to his hatred towards Sadeas, Amaram and Elhokar, but especially Amaram and Elhokar. His hatred drove him dark and he made a poor decisions, leading to Syl abandoning him and loosing his powers. I think Odium also influence Adolin too. Through out the book, Adolin barely restrained himself from totally killing Sadeas. He just completely lost control at the end of book and he ended up killing Sadeas. Number Two: Tarah Tarah will probably show up in the later books. She was already mention by Kaladin like two times in WoR. He kept on talking about his failure to her. But I suspect that Kaladin was not married or engage to her. Kaladin was like 16 years old when Tien died. I don't think he won't contemplate about marrying someone or being engaged to someone especially when Kaladin is a soldier. Knowing Kaladin, he probably doesn't one to be with someone else in case he dies and don't want his wife/fiancee/ lover for his death. So I suspect that this woman Tarah really loves Kaladin, Kaladin probably loves her too but not as much. He's probably too depressed because of Tien's death and he is not ready to love someone wholeheartedly without fearing of losing that person. So my theory, Kaladin probably told her that "I'm not a man for you...I don't want to see you became miserable just because I can not love you the way you love me. It's better is you be someone who doesn't have to spend most of his time obssessing about his brother's death and brooding over it most of the time." Maybe something like that....ahahaha... Then Tarah will probably show up in the next books. I suspect she will play an important role as well. Brandon seems to withheld information about her. She was not included in Kaladin's flashback. So we will probably learn more of her if she appears in the next books. Brandon will probably make her as one of the member of the factions or one of the Knight Radiants. Number Three: Shallan's connections with the Ghostblood Yep, since Shallan is a member of the Ghostbloods and the Knight Radiants. Shallan will have a hard time setting her priorities especially when the Ghostbloods have her family. Shallan will probably spend most of her time spying and using her illusions to deceive everyone. She will probably serve as a double agent as well. Since Danilar mention that she will spending her time finding out how to open the Oathgates. It is clear that Shallan will not remain in Urithiru. In able for her to open the other Oathgates, Shallan will probably go to the other Oathgates scattered all over the world. Jasnah will probably be going with her to help her out. Knowing Brandon, he will probably made it certain that Shallan and all the characters would be meet along the way and kick some chull and then save the world. And maybe even fool Kaladin into falling in love with a Shallan while she is in a disguise? LOL. Number Four: Adolin's Insecurity. Adolin becames insecure of his station which is obvious in this following scene. Chapter 87 (The Riddens) I believe he is stating this fact because he probably realize that Shallan being a Knight Radiant could mean that Shallan doesn't need the Khonilar's powerful influence to help her to save Shallan's family. Adolin is probably starting to worry that Shallan would no longer need him to marry him and then end their bethothral. He is already starting to get uncertain of his position when it comes to Shallan. His insecurity will probably lead him to become more clingy to Shallan. He has already shown his overprotectiveness towards Shallan after Shallan fell into the chasm, and Shallan clearly doesn't like it. Clingy, Overprotective and insecure Adolin would drive Shallan away. Shallan probably don't want to end the bethothral at first but if Adolin started acting clingy and overprotective, Shallan woul feel suffocated and will be the death of their relationship. And it would be even more terrible if Shallan and Kaladin seems to more friendly with each other than before, making Adolin jealous and more insecure, especially when Kaladin is now one of the Knight Radiant. After Adolin killed Sadeas, Adolin would probably start feeling jumpy and careful just to avoid suspicion. And when Adolin feels all of these kinds of negative emotions, Odium will have influence on him and then he will then try to get more power by stealing Kaladin's honorblade. It has been confirmed that Adolin will not become a skybreaker...and I think not even a Knight Radiant. I think Adolin killed Sadeas out in cold-blood because he was overcome with rage. Well, this could slowly happen in the next two books. Not immediately. Number Five: Adolin's overprotectiveness towards Shallan Even when Shallan is already a radiant, I don't think Adolin will stop being overprotective about her. I think Adolin will start worrying even more because Shallan is starting to discover her newfound powers and now she is a member of Ghostbloods, which means spending time going through the enemy lines and doing some dangerous stuff. Chapter 75 (True Glory) Shallan strongly reacts to Adolin's overprotectiveness. After that, Shallan started to show her annoyance towards Adolin for still treating her like that way, even when she already told him not too. Or maybe she just started to feel suffocated? Chapter 77 (Trust) Shallan still could not get over the fact that Adolin asked her to stay inside the couch. Obviously shown in this following scenes. She really is touchy when it comes to overprotectiveness. If Adolin keeps on treating her this way, then it would surely destroy their relationship later on. It is obvious that Shallan is trying to convince herself that Adolin was not trying to do to her what Shallan's father did to her. Natan mention this. I would also like to include my own theory on this one. It has a lot a of foreshadowing. I suspect that it could be either Kaladin or Shallan at this point. Why Kaladin? Well, I just based on this scene. I don't know. After reading this, I think Renarin probably saw something in the future, especially when he met Kaladin's stare. I think Kaladin would probably be the one who is either going to redeem or destroy all the world. And then Renarin started acting worried about something afterwards. Or it could probably be Shallan since she is the one who has ties to the Ghostbloods and still the problem with Helaran's death. She could probably switched side just because of that or something else. Number Six: Kaladin travelling back to his hometown Kaladin will probably travel back to his hometown but not alone. Since Shallan needs to open to the Oathgates so that other cities can enter Urithiru and save them from the everstorm. Shallan will probably try to hitch a ride with him and drop her off to Khonilar since its kinda near to Heartstone? Hmn...I'm kinda hoping that it does. Maybe its not gonna happen, but still hoping. Anyway, Kaladin will be returning to Heartstone. Kaladin will find out that his family is no longer there because his father died? His mother returned back to her side of the family and Kaladin was left in Heartstone to help them instead. I really hope that Kaladin would not have any kinds of feeling towards Laral because she's a bitch. Kaladin will still have problems trying to suppress his hatred towards Roshone but still help heartstone and convince them of the everstorm. Well, maybe they travel to the nearest oathgate in hopes that they will safe in Urithiru. Other people come along and he meets Shallan and Jasnah along the way too, while she tries to open the oathgate. Number Seven: Szeth, Nightblood and Skybreakers Well, since the next book is about Szeth, and the next everstorm will be in Shinovar. I think Szeth will spend most of his time trying to take the honorblades from the Shin and convince them of the Everstorm. I think Nalan will also ask Szeth to kill Shallan since Shallan killed her father. I think Nalan would see that as a crime? When Szeth goes to Shallan, Kaladin is there with her, and they resume fighting again. Kaladin trying to protect Shallan while Shallan tries to figure out how to open the oathgate in Kholinar and do it before the everstorm arrives like a hour later...ahaha... Number Eight: Danilar Danilar would spend most of his time in Urithiru trying to prevent a war from breaking between Sadeas army and his army. He will also spend most of his time being investigated and preventing assassination attempts on himself and the King, especially when all the Highprinces started take Urithiru and their new discoveries. He will also have to spend most of his time contacting other countries. Number Nine: Adolin after killing Sadeas Adolin will be more cautious and jumpy. He will probably framed someone for the death of Sadeas. He will not be able to go back to the way things are after what he's done. He will be mostly afraid to be found and especially afraid for his father to find out. Well, these are my theories on the next book. With regards to Shallan/ Kaladin in the next book. Well, I think they will just become friends, maybe a little bit attracted to each other but just friends.
  15. Shallan's description about Kaladin. She has this habit of comparing Kaladin and Adolin. Chapter 70 (From a Nightmare) ---------- ---------- Chapter 75 (True Glory) ----------- The funny thing is. Shallan seemed to like to compare Kaladin to a rock. A natural rock formation. And here's what she thought of a rock since she's been searching for Urithiru in this entire book. For me, this is kinda relevant. Shallan symbolizes a rock as something pretty important to her. --------------- Chapter 80 (To Fight the Rain) ----------------- I find this funny when I read this part. Shallan comparing Kaladin to a natural rock formation is like she truly appreciated Kaladin more than Adolin. The way she describe Kaladin has more depth. I haven't really seen Shallan compare Adolin to something that is relevant. Or maybe I missed it? While Shallan mostly desrcibe Adolin about what she saw. She is certainly more attracted to his physical attributes than anything else. Every time Shalln sees Adolin, the first thing she always noticed is how handsome he is or how good he looks even when there is a little bit discoloration in his face. I think Shallan never describe Adolin like she described Kaladin. I always wonder why Shallan seem to always compare Kaladin to Adolin. Why would she do that? Unless she was interested or see him attractive in his own way... Chapter 78 (Contradictions) --- Chapter 88 (The Man Who Owned the Winds) ---- There are still a lot of occassions as well where in Shallan just describe Adolin as handsome every time she saw him. ---------------- Now let's compare Adolin and Kaladin once again during their time with Shallan. I will focus more on Kaladin since he's the one I'm rooting for hehehe... Number one: Let's talk about Shallan desiring to see the Chasmfied. We all know tha she just ask Adolin to take her along to the platues so that she can search Urithiru..But she was obviously interested in the Chasmfiend as well. Adolin allowed to take her to see the Chasmfiend. But its a dead Chasmfiend since he was clearly concern about Shallan getting hurt if it was a live chasmfiend. Chapter 49 (Watching the World Transform) ----- Now for Kaladin, well...He tried to stop Shallan at first but allowed her to observe a chasmfiend from a far...and then taking her away when the chasmfied was done eating.Shallan was able to draw a chasmfiend at last. I say I give one point to Kaladin for letting her go and then being there with her just to make sure that she was safe. Chapter 70 (From a Nightmare) --- Oh my Kaladin, did you just grabbed Shallan's safe hand? How inappropriate of you...ahaha.. ---- Number two: Confiding in Shallan and Shallan Confiding back. The matter of trust. Adolin is a sore loser in this even after Adolin confided in Shallan about everything that was happening to him. Shallan haven't really told anything to him at all. Even when they were already in Urithiru. -------- Chapter 49 (Watching the World Transform) --- Chapter 87 (The Riddens) ---------------- Yep, Kaladin is the real winner in this. After Shallan's insistence. Kaladin confided in her and was rewarded in return. ---- Chapter 24 (Striding the Storm) ----- ------------ --- -------------- Number three: Obviously, Kaladin is the winner under certain circumstances. But what the hell! I think Shallan got the most heart-thumping moments with Kaladin more than with Adolin. She nearly spend her time physically assaulting Kaladin...and the other way around..ahaha... She even get to see the stormfather...which she could add to her collections of drawings LOL. Chapter 49 (Watching the World Transform) ----- Chapter 24 (Striding the Storm) ---------------- Number four: Saving someone and Lending her Shardblade Well, Shallan was not able to save Adolin during the duel due to some difficult circumstances...but she doesnt seem to mind lending her shardblade to Kaladin. Nope, she doesn't mind letting Kaladin use it... Lucky Kaladin ahaha... Chapter 57 (To Kill the Wind) -------------- Chapter 71 (Vigil)
  16. Someone earlier was talking about contrast..So I'm going to expound more on that... I will start by mentioning this scene. Chapter 70 (From a Nightmare) Comparing Kaladin and Shallan..Well, they are obviously quite opposite from each other. Like Shallan said, she is the happy and smiling lady while Kaladin is the dark and brooding one...It shows more clearly here when they are together. However, Shallan seems to get grumpy every time Kaladin seems to be acting cheerful. Here are the examples. And when Kaladin turned back into his moody self. Shallan started to act cheerful and happy again. And she doesn't know why she was in the mood at that time. Chapter 70 (From a Nightmare) And when Kaladin became cheerful again, she's the one who is suddenly moody. Chapter 72 (Selfish Reasons) ------------- Another contrast. Well, Shallan has developed a habit of ignoring or forgetting things that are unpleasant to her while Kaladin spends most of his time beating himself with it, blaming himself. Chapter 70 (From a Nightmare) Shallan ingoring her unpleasent situations Kaladin blaming himself for landing themselves in that situation. Someone also mention this, about how both Shallan and Kaladin reacts during the weeping. Kaladin became more gloomy during the weeaping and dislike it very much...while Shallan became more creative during this time and seem to enjoy the rain. Kaladin Chapter 77 (Trust) Chapter 80 (To Fight the rain) Shallan Chapter 78 (Contradictions) However, Kaladin seemed to have move on with the gloom. He even thought about Shallan which brought a smile on his face. Chapter 80 (To Fight the Rain) Why am I talking about contrast? For one thing, Shallan and Kaladin perfectly complement each other. They balance each other out as shown in some of the scenes above. Like for example, Shallan trying her best to ignore the unpleasant things around her, especially her past while Kaladin keeps on blaming himself for the death of his friends and love ones. Well, during the time in the chasm. They finally realized that what they were doing with themselves were not healthy. And so they confided in each other because they both understand what they were both going through. Similarties Kaladin has the an imense fear of being betrayed. And the fear of being thrown into a cage again. Shallan is afraid of being suffocated due to overprotectitiveness. She is afraid of being locked away like a fragile child. Kaladin saying almost the same thing as Shallan. Chapter 58 (Never Again) Shallan reacting to Adolin's overprotectiveness. Chapter 75 (True Glory) The Blackbane was like a symbol. A turning point in their lives. Kaladin was awaken from his despair and attempted suicide after receiving the Blackbane from Syl. Chapter 11 (Droplets) The Way of Kings Shallan tried to kill her father through Blackbane, given by her brother. Chapter 73 (A Thousand Scurrying Creatures) Someone also mention that the way Shallan describe Kaladin is similar to the way Navani describe Dalinar. Chapter 70 (From a Nightmare) That's the contrast and some similarities. The others similarities that I mention is the one where Shallan meet the slaver, his cronies and Gaz. and travelling in the same cage as Kaladin did. I'm still not done yet...ahaha...I have other stuff that I need to mention as well...ahaha...Including some heavy foreshadowing that could affect the next series....ahaha To be continued...
  17. Ok. This is a continuation of my previous post. It took my a long time to write this since I have to go through the entire book again and check some stuff hehehe... Like I said before, there's a lot of foreshadowing here in this book. I also read from someone about the contrast between Kaladin and Shallan. I will expoud further on it and point out some stuff that you might have or might not have notice. I will go through with it in chronological order so that there won't be a lot of confusion. I will start by mentioning that Shallan is indeed physically attracted to Adolin. I mean, who wouldn't? He is just so perfect. Handsome, rich and famous. What else can she ask for? Is obvious in this scene from the book. ---------------------- Other than the superficial attraction, Shallan obviously spends most of her time trying to decieve Adolin. These scene is from Chapter 49 (Watching the World Transform) -------------- The first time they went out together. Shallan was acting and lying most of the time, especially when trying to convince Adolin to trust her and then make him bring her to the platues while she search for the evidence of Urithiru. Actually, this was the chapter when Adolin suddenly started confiding in her about Sadeas betrayal, Danilar's visions and their plan to reunit Alethkar. But I don't see Shallan confiding back even when Shallan already knew about his dirty little secret..ahaha.. The third time they meet was after Adolin fought Elit. However, before Shallan went to see the duel, she was already planning to meet Adolin soon because she wanted to talk to Navani. So she purposely went to the duel with another agenda. ------ Chapter 53 (Perfection) ------------- Shallan always tried to approach Adolin with a hidden a agenda of her own. She's seriously deceiving and lying to him most of the time.... There next encounder was when Shallan went out with Adolin again along with Kaladin. In this chapter, Adolin started to show his strong interest to Shallan with a little bit of possessiveness, which Wit noticed. ---------- Chapter 55 (The Rules of the Game) In the next scene, Kaladin noticed that Shallan was obviously acting. -- Chapter 55 (The Rules of the Game) -- -- -- --- This was the moment when Adolin became obviously smitten with Shallan. -- --- This was the time when Kaladin seems to be very grumpy just watching Shallan and Adolin looking happy. -- Kaladin is probably jealous to see two happy couple enjoying themselves and obviously smitten with each other. Aww...poor Kaladin. --- Adolin tries to make Shallan jealous in this chapter?... Chapter 63 (A Burning World) --- Shallan is always careful when she is around Adolin, Like all the time. Always thinking about her next move. -- Chapter 63 (A Burning World) -- Another one of her lies to cover up what she was doing. Always lying. -- Chapter 63 (A Burning World) --- The first time that Shallan noticed Kaladin's intelligence...ahaha..even if it was said as a quip..ahaha Chapter 68 (Bridges) --- Shallan seem to be enjoying pissing Kaladin off or getting under his skin ahaha...Nope, Shallan is more of herself when around Kaladin. Not to concern about propriety and social ethics or worried about the way she talks and acts like she does most of the time with Adolin. Chapter 69 (Nothing) -- The only moments where Shallan is truly being honest with herself is when she loses her temper. She pretty much says what's inside her mind without needing to think twice about it, unlike other things. To be continued... The next one will be full of Kaladin/Shallan stuff that I would like to expound more? ahaha...
  18. I voted for Shallan/Kaladin.... Actually, I would never have thought that I would ship this pairing but after reading Words of Radiance. Well, I changed my mind. I really love their banter and their time at the chasm. At first, I like the idea of Shallan/Adolin even when the Words of Radiance haven't come out yet. I like Adolin at first because he is handsome, a famous duelist. a shardbearer, a royal blood and a lot of girls love him. (I know. I'm kinda superficial too? ahaha...But what the hell! I really prefer that the female protagonist to have a terribly handsome love interest....but Kaladin will do for me as well..ahaha) I was already hoping for a Adolin/Shallan pairing...but as I started reading Words of Radiance...Well, I can say that I enjoyed reading the Shallan/Kaladin moments more than Shallan/Adolin... Here are my opinions why Shallan/Kaladin shows more strongly in this book. It's just my opinion. You can start arguing about it but I still won't change my mind that I prefer Shallan/Kaladin in this book. I don't really mind who Shallan will end up in the future...It might be Szeth for all we know ahaha...but that would be interesting too..ahaha...Shallan and Szeth...I wonder what would that be like..ahaha... Moving on. As I was saying, Shallan and Kaladin shows strongly in here. It has a lot of foreshadowing that I could almost feel like its gonna be inevitable. I will start by saying that Shallan knows Adolin first before Kaladin. Shallan found out that she was bethrothed to Adolin through Jasnah. Shallan accepted it ecstatically because it could solve the financial problems that her family have attained through the years. I think she was pretty excited about it actually...but I can say that it was just an arrangment of convenience...But the way she expressed it was just...too shallow?... ---------------------- Chapter One (Santhid) --- --- --------------------- While as I reread her reactions in Chapter one...I started to think that Shallan probably fell in love with the idea of falling in love with a prince. A prince that she had daydream of meeting and marrying. I strongly think that Shallan just felt that she loves Adolin just for the sake of loving him...or she loves him because he is just soooo Perfect for her. Her ideal Alethi Prince. Like I said, foreshadowing... Adolin might be the first person that Shallan knew about...but it was Kaladin that Shallan met first. It was also kinda...amusing that Shallan travelled the same way as Kaladin did. Shallan met the slaver Tvlakv and his two cronies Bluth and Tag. The samepeople that brought kaladin in the shattered plains. Shallan also travelled in the same cage where she saw the same scratch marks that Kaladin saw. And it only got more interesting, when Shallan met Gaz as well. It feels like Shallan was destined to really meet Kaladin first. But I also suspect that the spren must be the one who are trying hard for them to meet...The first time they meet, well..I can say it was hilarious especially when Shallan asked for Kaladin's boots. I don't know...She already travelled in the same way that Kaladin did in the past, and now she's walking in his boots? It feels like Shallan is going through an initiation or something...ahaha... --------------- Chapter 28 (Boots) -------------- Anyway, Shallan met Kaladin first...then they meet again when Shallan arrived in the Shattered Plains. -------------------------- Chapter 36 (A New Woman) - ----------------------- They ended up arguing and insulting each other. Both lost their temper. ahaha...This was probably the first time that Shallan completely lost control of her temper with someone...ahaha ------------------------------- Chapter 36 (A New Woman) ------------------------------- When I read this scene the first time, I already started shipping them. This could be a potential love-hate relationship. LOL. I can see in the future that they will argue a lot of times but they won't admit that they find each other attracted to one another...ahaha... Let's talk about the first time when Shallan met Adolin -------------------- Chapter 37 (A Matter of Perspective) ------------------------- Rereading this scene again, well...I find myself thinking that Shallan became attracted to Adolin because he is very handsome...added with the fact that his smile makes her forget about things that are unpleasant to her...pretty convinient, isn't it? ------------------------ Chapter 37 (A Matter of Perspective) ------------------------- Shallan is attracted to Adolin at this point. But only superficially...its obvious of the way she became a scatter-brained girl every time he smiles at her... Second time they meet...Inside the training ground. It was Kaladin who first saw her when she entered the training ground. ------------------------- Chapter 44 (One Form of Justice) ------------------------------- Kaladin would probably have started talking/ arguing with her if Adolin hadn't intercepted him. ------------ Chapter 44 (One Form of Justice) ------------------------------------------- Another thing... I don't know..I think Shallan purposely ignored Adolin in this chapter when she entered or she just didn't see him because of his armor on? hmn...but she noticed Kaladin even when he wasn't trying hard to get noticed. ------------------------ Still Chapter 44 (One Form of Justice) ----------- Shallan just noticed him later on --------------- While she seems to have noticed Kaladin immediately... -------------------- ----------------------- Anyway, I'm just comparing...and making a big a deal out of this scene? ahaha... Like I said, foreshadowing... To be continued... I'm not done yet. I'm gonna post another long one later on...ahaha...
  19. LOL. Yeah...ahaha...They probably both felt tired...but I think Shallan fell asleep because she subconsciously accepted that she could trust Kaladin and she felt safe already in Kaladin's arms?...ahaha...
  20. Yeah, but that was before Shallan started confiding in Kaladin. They started talking about each other's past when they were stuck inside the cave-like structure during the highstorm.
  21. Actually, Shallan was the one who first asked Kaladin to tell her about his past..That's when Kaladin started telling her about his past. When she heard his story, Shallan started confiding in him as well...Kindly please read the book again especially the chasm part..
  22. I think Shallan would not confide to Adolin even when he was the one who was stuck in the chasm with her...I think Shallan was able to confide in Kaladin because she thinks Kaladin could understand her better since they both have a terrible past. She confided more to Kaladin because she knew that Kaladin would never judge her or see her differently for killing her father...
  23. My favorite part was the duel with Kaladin suddenly jumping inside the arena. I also like the part where Kaladin and Shallan bicker when they first meet and the time when Shallan arrived in the Shattered Plains. I also like the part when Kaladin and Shallan fell into the chasm...hehehe... Lastly, I like the part when Kaladin got his power back and then flew to save Dalinar. I was just disappointed that Kaldin and Szeth didnt really have an epic fight...They just spend their time flying and then just clashing blades...I was kinda hoping that they ended up fighting in a crowded area and the people there look amazed to see these two fighting and flying around...ahahaha
  24. I think Kaladin became dark because of Odium's influence. Odium probably used Kaladin's hatred towards Amaram and the other lighteyes so that Kaladin will make a terrible decision and make him loose his powers. I think Odium also influence Adolin into killing Sadeas because of Adolin's hatred. Adolin was on his way to becoming a Knight Radiant (it was evident when he started to feel disgust while he slaughtered the chanting parshendi.) I think Adolin will turned darker in the third book because of his recent actions. I also suspect that Odium would start influencing Shallan as well into hating Kaladin since Kaladin murdered Helaran... When the Knight Radiants feel hatred towards someone, I think they will become open to Odium's influence. Like Ruin influencing the protagonists in Mistborn triology..
